I have a preference, personally, towards all things Corsair. But to my knowledge they aren't the fastest reading or writing SSDs out there. If that's what you're looking for I'll have to defer to someone who knows via firsthand experience/research.

Some games are just poorly optimized or, and it's totally possible, some games are just that graphically demanding.

For instance, I've heard GTA V for PC is pretty well optimized and even with a 1070 (I know, because I have one) I can dip into the 50-60s with the graphics maxed out. Games really aren't discernibly different on medium or high settings though, and run much better that way. Plus AA kills FPS.

Nice upgrades though, and crazy that your GPU literally caught fire!

That's really weird to me. The in-game log of FPS is about the same as my old 4790K/970 setup as the 7700K/1070 setup. Although, the game does run better.

Yeah, the GPU, my wife screamed at me "Your video card is on fire" and it in fact was. Burn mark right on the circuitry portion of it as well.

The upgrades seem to be worth it so far. I'm not looking to get 4K, but, at least 1080/1440 at most for now.

You should definitely be noticing a difference between a 4790K/970 versus a 7700K/1070. Are all other settings otherwise equal, as far as graphics settings/sliders?

And yeah, Samsung SSDs are almost universally raved about for their speed and reliability. I just had a theme in mind and stuck to 100% Corsair products where I could.

As far as the settings, basically the same.

I utilize Nvidia Geforce experience to optimize games for me and the 1070 was optimized one line under 1080 quality and I changed that to 1080. The 970 would struggle a bit in certain games running that high.

The computer itself is faster, but, not by huge margins by any means. Someone was saying that going from a 970 to 1080ti would be drastic in comparison.

Corsair makes great products. I've had their gaming mouse for many years with no issues and have had a PSU for about 3.5 years before it failed as well. Other PSU's I've had failed within a year of use.

I also hear their GPU's are great.

I'm a huge EVGA fan, though.

That's why you're not seeing a dramatic increase in FPS. I also use the GFE optimizer, and once it detects the shift from a 970 to 1070, I can about guarantee it's automatically ramping up the settings to near max. As far as not significantly faster, in terms of what? Browsing? You're going from an OC'd i7 to an OC'd i7. I would think the only place you see definitive gains at that point are in benchmark programs like Cinebench.

I really wish you had your old system to compare again. I bet there's huge differences.

Well, visually, the game looks and feels like it runs much smoother than previously with the 970 GPU.

I realize the difference between the 4790K and 7700K is small. Browsing seems great. Opening certain programs seems the same as before. As far as running games, it's better than before, but, in my opinion, not mind blowing better, ya know.

Right now, the game in question is WoW. Before with the 970, in an open area, with global tag bosses and other players and adds all over, the FPS in-game would typically show around 40-70, sometimes, slightly higher. Once I entered into any kind of large fight with multiple players/bosses/adds, there were times the computer would slow down and the in-game FPS monitor would show around 20-25 FPS for the duration of the fight.

Now, it doesn't do that, but, I've heard people saying that I should be seeing 100-150 FPS since it is not 4K, but, I'm barely seeing 100, even though, visually, the game doesn't appear to struggle and looks much better than before and runs smoother.

Hard to explain, but, I hope you understand the explanation man.

Alright I think I found the issue with these Astros.

I use the optical cable for the surround sound. I have the "astro voice" as my default communication device, and the "optical out" as my default device. When having that the audio sounded Like crap.

Then just to experiment I turned off the dolbly button, and then boom! The audio sounds is crispy clean.

I played a few pubg games and the game audio was clear, surround sound was there, and I didnt get any audio disconnection.

CPU Currently installed is an I7-7800X. I am replacing that with an I7-7820X next week. Waiting for the chip to arrive. Edit: Replaced the 7820X with an I9-7900X.

Wife's screen below. The desk is still a mess but it will be cleaned up. I plan on placing some LED strips outside the case behind the screens. I have custom screen stands with metal frames - the LED strips have magnets on them and should stick to the frames easily.

LOL thanks! It could have been a dual CPU setup though. This should last me a decade. My previous computer worked out fine for 10 years because it had good components back in 2006/7. But it was time to upgrade. I'll post more pics once it is all cleaned up with the LED lights installed.

The only main issue with using the TVs as monitors is that they don't interact with the sleep functionality of an operating system. Once the computer tells the screen to turn off the TVs display a lost signal message. I therefore have the screens set to never turn off and a blank screensaver that activates after 10 minutes. However the screens still draw power with the blank screen saver. So we just turn them off manually when not in use.

We never turn the computers off ever. The components last longer by just running it 24/7 365 days per year. And in the winter they help heat the room which is needed because there are a lot of windows and the insulation is not good in this part of the house.

A secondary issue is the screens are side by side and each remote will turn on / off both screens simultaneously. We have to turn them off pushing the button on the bottom of the screen.

But besides these issues the screens are fantastic and so much better than the 27" Samsung 1080p Computer Monitors we had.

These are the settings that really makes a difference to make the screens work well as monitors:

Setting the HDMI port to UHD in the Samsung External Device Manager enables Chroma 4.4.4 which is crucial.

HDMI Black Level has to be set to Low to improve contrast and provide darker blacks. The option was grayed out for me until I made the following settings under the Nvidia Control Panel:

Just replaced my GTX 980 Gigabyte G1 with a BIOS Mod that was at 1550 MHz core and a pretty hefty memory overclock with an GTX 1080 Ti EVGA FTW3 running the Slave BIOS (higher power target.) I kept the rest of my PC the same, basically a 2600K @ 4.8 GHz and 8 GB DDR3 RAM.

First thing I did was run a comparison benchmark in Superposition and a comparison of GTA 5 using the in-game benchmarking tool.

Overall, obviously, the 1080 Ti is a performer. I did not mess with any OC, did not touch any fan curves, and did not touch the voltage. It is obvious that I need to at least mess with the fan curves, because the core clocks on my Ti were all over the place due to the stock fan curves letting the temps get too high before turning the fans up.

GTX 980 Superposition score:

Stock 1080 Ti FTW3 Superposition score: (About a 96% improvement)

GTA 5 In-Game Benchmark Tool Comparison: (About a 74% improvement)

Wow incredible build, nice.

And @helloWorld, 2600k @ 4.8, water cooled I assume? should defiantly upgrade your cpu wih that 1080 TI, 6700k/7700k and 8gb of ram are your bottlenecks.
