You have to be a serious die cast collector to pay these asking prices. I can't justify it since it will just collect dust

Nice. I won a trip to Dearborn through work, and on the last night they drew names for door prizes. The lucky jerk that got his name pulled right before mine got one of these. I got a model of a 49 woody. Disappointment does not begin to explain it.

Can you disassemble these engines? I like that the aluminator has the polished supercharger. It looks just like the polished Eaton on my car. There is an aluminator on ebay now for ~$339 that is missing some paint on the cam covers. I would be interested in taking off the cam covers and having them chromed/polished to match mine if they could be removed.

Not sure if you could get those off. The obvious Problem would be if you break them or break other pieces while attempting too...

The cam covers are only plastic, so I'm not sure you could chrome them. I only know this because I bought the Aluminator version several years ago through a group buy on here and it came damaged with one of the covers loose floating in the box. They are just glued on. I ended up sending it back for a replacement. It was a cool model, but ended up selling it after awhile to fund mods for the real version. In hindsight I kind of wish I had kept it, but it was a ton of cash to tie up for a mostly plastic model, so I couldn't justify it at the time.
