I'm trying to install my t56 magnum , and every time I try to stab it I have about a 1" gap between the transmission and bellhousing.

I've taken the pressure plate off and re aligned the clutch discs to see if that was it, tried again and same problem.

If anyone has done this install and had same problem, any tips on this would be appreciated.

I've noticed the clutch disc splines tend to have a little rust on them if they've been sitting around awhile, and that will make it a bitch for the input shaft to slide through on a twin disc.

I use a stainless steel brush to clean the input shaft and disc splines then use a tooth brush to dab a little high temp grease on the input shaft and disc splines, I use Mystik NGL2.

Don't go nuts with the grease just a light coat.

Thanks for the info I'll try brushing the splines on the shaft and clutch discs.

This is really the only thing I haven't tried yet

Not knowing for sure. But your angle may be off just slightly. I lifted the motor up slightly by placing board under crank pulley. Made it easier to get proper angle for it to slide in. And make sure your pilot bearings didn't get scrambled in there from trying to shove input shaft in it.

I ended up overnighting a steel clutch alignment tool from summit racing, transmission went in with little effort after that. Appreciate all the advice
