I recently bought a first gen lightning had vinyl stripes on it but PO removed the vinyl stripes but all the glue stayed on the truck. Now looks like its baked on it. What's the best/fastest way to remove it? I'll be posting pics soon of it.
+1 on the GG. Soak up a section of a micro fiber towel and let it sit on the residue for a minute or two. Then buff it out and follow up with a quick detailer to get rid of any left over GG.
I'm a little late here but mineral spirits works well and is cheap. Soak a small section of your rag and wipe it off. Sometimes it needs a few seconds to soften up the adhesive.
3m makes an aerosol adhesive remover that works well too but you have to be quick with that before it dries up (just doesn't work, doesn't cause a problem).
WD 40 really is good as well, used that to clean up after removing a clear bra
Well guys tried a few things with no success. I've used goo gone, thinner, wd40. I should try to use my steamer but it hardly works. May try 1200 grit sandpaper and buff it out after. Also any one use the rubber wheels for decals?
Use a rag that won't scratch your paint and moisten it with mineral spirits. You might have to hold it over the spot for 10 or 15 seconds to soften the adhesive but once it softens it up it should come off with some rubbing.
Alcohol will not work as well because it evaporates too fast.
And if by chance the vinyl that was on there was reflective it will be particularly difficult to remove.
