My driver side egr tube on my exhaust header cracked and was leaking. Pulled out the K-member and took out the mac LT to have the egr tube shaved off. I decided to buy these gaskets, big mistake and now I have the a leak. I did not use any rtv. However, the old gaskets looked like they were made out of some steel compared the Ford racing ones below.

So back to square one. What header gaskets are you guys using with your LTs and are you guys using any RTV and what quantity of RTV are you guys using?

I have oem Ford gaskets on my car, as we've discovered all others eventually leak. No RTV

As I do agree, I was very concerned about the copper gasket and different brand failures but was convinced at the pri show so I got them then, before I planed on the rebuild.

I just installed headers on my car. Spent the money and went with new OEM gaskets. Hopefully i have a leak free seal like everyone else.

If you go on lethal you'll see two different Ford racing gaskets. I suspect the steel ones were for supercharged applications. That's what most recommend and what my car had with factory manifolds.

This will probably get some may sayers and ones that feel this will cause harm....... but.... you can use Permatex Hi Temp COPPER silicone in place of the actual header/exhaust gaskets. Put a bead around the ports on the header and bolt up then let it dry over night. There are MANY Mustangs around our area sorting this "gasket" and I haven't heard of one blowing out or leaking in the past 6 or so years. A friend with a Mustang shop uses this method 5.0s, 4.6s and others. IF there is an issue just clean the RTV off and reseal, no buying another set of gaskets

Guess I wasn't alone. I had the same happen with them and Hooker longtubes, granted it was a fairly small leak I didn't notice until after I pulled the engine.

I've run the Felpros with no trouble ever since, both with longtubes and stainless turbo headers. Only thing that's a pain is them being 2-piece. The same style even sealed perfectly on a warped 2.3 exhaust manifold.
