I have buddy that was making $76k a year working as a cop in Tampa. He did say he worked a lot of detail. He just quit cause he's moving to NC to work drilling/laying pipe for an oil company. A co-worker of his hooked him up with the job cause he's leaving to work there too. He said he's going to be making $130k... I told him to let me know if it works out and i'll join him in NC for that kind of money.
How did your buddies get the equipment operator jobs? They can't put in a good word for you? Most of the people i know with high paying jobs got that job because of people they know.
If it works out for all of you then sign me up lol. One of my friends got lucky and was recruited right out of high school to service fleet vehicles. 6 years later he's never touched a fleet vehicle and now does equipment operation, Welding and other general duties. Other 2 friends got in through family who are also apart of the company. They simply don't have any open positions. Or they only open them for family members.

Straight out of high school I got suckered into being an electrician. Been doing that for 10 years now. Commercial Helicopter school when I turn 30.

Always thought I'd be working on custom cars as a kid
When I was a freshman in high school I originally wanted to do electrical knowing they make a lot of money. Did 2 weeks of that said "f**k this" it was way to boring for me.

Can't say my electrical career has been boring but yea if you get stuck doing high rises or cookie cutter homes it would be awful.
I've been some extreme places and always challenged with something new so it's been a good 10 years. I do want change now though

I went to school thinking I was going to work for an intel agency. I now work on a software contract that focuses on healthcare research & analytics. I never imagined I would be doing something like this, but I find it extremely interesting. I have learned to never be afraid to make a career change if you don't like what you do. Life is too short to play it safe.

I originally moved to New York as an actor. I have my bachelors degree in theatre, I worked a lot in the industry and had some great success, but was just tired of the instability and earning virtually nothing relative to the cost of living in NYC (anything under $100k a year here is tough to live on).

My family was in real estate in Las Vegas and I swore up and down I'd never go into it because it was the family business, but I decided to just give it a shot here in NYC to add some stability, and it was the best goddamned decision I ever made in my life.

I started out doing a lot of rentals, but now I focus on the high end luxury market here in the NYC (specializing in sales $4M+, but also still do lots of rentals just to make some quick cash between), and I wake up every day thrilled to do what I do, I'm earning more than I ever thought imaginable being 26 years old, and I'm pretty confident I'll be in real estate as either a broker and/or investor for the rest of my life.

That's awesome to hear a success story like that. Do you work for an agency or buy and sell on your own?

Eh. Went to work at the post office just for a summer job. Yeah it was the post office back then. Well 35 years later retired and bought a Shelby.

Got my B.S. in Accounting and B.A. in criminal justice.

Worked as a Correctional Officer for 5 years and had enough of that.

Talked with my brother who worked for a large steel building company in Ohio who was looking to hire more Draftsman.
I put in my two weeks and by the end of the month I was loaded up and moving to Ohio.

I have been a Draftsman for that same company now for the last 19 years and love my job.

Just high school here. Got lucky and applied to chemical manufacturing facility at 25 years old and landed a gravy job as a Control Room Operator right off the street, very rare to happen here. Union pay scale so I make more than a lot of college grads. January will be 20 years, I guess this is my career...

Thanks sir! I really love what I do man. It's the greatest job.

I primarily work as a seller/buyers broker - I work for Century 21 here in the city and am an office manager there as well.

This was my most recent sale in June - closing in about two weeks. www.25cpw11n.com

I own one rental property back in Las Vegas right now, but once I pull the trigger on buying a place of my own in the next 18-24 months, I'll start saving to begin flipping and investing.

Considering our median sales price here is $1.71M, it takes a little bit of coin to buy a place of your own, let alone have the capital to begin investing, but I'm getting there. :)

Still early in my career but got my BS in Microbiology / minor in chemistry tried getting into med school. Didnt happen. Now work in the world of Recruiting. Actually dont mind the work too much just focused on moving further up the leadership chain. Did go back to school and got a business oriented masters to get something more practical to not being a doctor since i never wanted to be a lab tech person.

I went to work as a burger flipper when I was 16. 21 years later I never thought I would still be here making great money and completely happy. It's weird how things work out. And who knew burger flipping could be so profitable!

I've worked for INO for all 21 of those years. One of the best companies in the world to work for.

Don't be quick to judge one persons opinion on the military. I spent my high school years as a volunteer Fire Fighter/EMT and a manager for a township parks and recreation division. I thought for sure I would follow those steps once I got out of the military.

I did 5 yrs in the USMC and thank god I did. Yeah life in the service has the highest highs and the lowest lows but you get out of it what you put in. Pick a job field that will benefit you once you get out. I was an Intel guy so the military took good care of me.

Now that Im out of the service I have a 6 figure job, no college debt, and the GI Bill pays my mortgage and then some because of those 5 yrs of service. I am extremely lucky and thank god for everything lining up the way it has. I would be no where near where I am today without the military. I just say think about it more seriously. Dont listen to family lack of support or one hard heads opinion because he probably has a shit job in a shit unit.

Good luck!

I prefer the term electrical prostitution.

I was in school for physical/occupational therapy. Got in a little legal trouble and figured with how competitive the program is a mark on a record isn't exactly a great start.

Been in the oil and gas industry for a few years now doing different things. I basically sit in a truck and watch movies on my phone 15 hours a day now and even though it gets mundane I could be doing much worse.
