If this has been answered, I apologize... I searched and couldn't find any definite answers and the ones I did find were on the Aluminator (15+ based.... which I'm sure is the same).

1. What timing components need to be moved from the 2011-2014 to the new 2015-2017 Engine? Intake cam only, both cams, I know the phasers and chains will need to be swapped over to the 2015-2017.

2. Will I need any special oil filter adapter or will the one off my 2011-2014 work on the 2015-2017 engine?

3. Since my 2011-2014 timing cover is already ground for my VMP supercharger, can I swap it over to the 2015-2017 to save time having to grind the new timing cover?

4. Please list anything else you think I may need to know...

Again, I'm sorry if this is beating a dead horse, but I couldn't find any definite answers via search.

That I've seen/been told by those I've asked on the forum,

1: Cams, timing components-all of them that I'm aware, including the crank sprocket, which is different diameter on gen 1 engines.

2. I have heard the oil filter adapter/housing DOES clear the crossmember. There is only one person I have talked to, but if this is the case, it makes things much nicer. The short block evidently does NOT come with the part on the oil filter housing that allows you to actually mount the filter. That screw is extra.

3. Keep your current timing cover, it will fit.

4. You should use 2015-17 head bolts and 2015-17 head gaskets.

Here is a PDF someone linked somewhere once:

Just in case anyone else was wondering.....

You will need to swap the following:

Intake cams
All 4 phasers
All 4 chains

That is all.... :)

Nope.... LOL... Shaun@AED told me only intake cams and I know the phasers are different... I double checked all the part numbers on the chain guides and they were identical.... side by side match up let me know the OFA on the 17 engine would fit in the 11-14 so no need to swap that.... running just fine and already starting to log the car for the new tune

Sorry to revive and old thread but I think I need to swap 11-14 timing components into my gen 2 engine as I installed it into my 2011 coyote.

Is it just the intake cams and not exhaust? I thought all of the cams had different lift etc?

i was wondering if i put 2015 complete engine should i need the timing chain component ?
No, however, depending on your year ('11 and early 12), you will need a engine harness, goes for about $200. You will also need a 3 bolt water pump pulley. Make sure you have the correct thread pitch nuts for the exhaust manifold. Other than that, assuming you are tvs supercharged, bolts right up, plug and play. Just completed the swap on my 2011 TVS last week. Runs great, no need to retune.

I thought the ECU's were different? I've just ordered 11-14 intake cams and 11-14 timing componnet set for my 15 engine so I can run it on the 11-14 ECU etc

  • Long block is compatible with engine harness VCT harnesses after 2/27/2012 see M-12508-M50 if your engine is currently equipped with early VCT solenoids and engine harness

I've got a 2011 5.0 and got a late 14 crate engine with 15 cams/phasers etc. Spoke to a few people including VMP and they said I'll need to change the intake cams + components to 11-14 so that's why I'm doing now. Not sure if I'll need that newer wiring harness I'll see when I get the change over done. I guess with the 11-14 VCT my harness will be fine.

Basically you got he M50A crate motor rather M50A1. If you had gotten the M50A1 crate motor, you wouldn't of had to change all of those components. In your case, your harness will be fine because you had to change all of the stated components to accommodate that harness. My responses surround the M50A1 crate engine only.

So the M50A1 is a 2015+ long block with that will run with the 11-14 ECU without needing any sort of timing component changes?

Yes! Exactly! It's pretty awesome that Ford came out with that option for us. We get all of the goodies with this option i.e. bigger intake and exhaust valves/cams, stiffer springs, better ports, re balanced crankshaft, and stronger rods.
