Rear end suggestions

My rear end is getting louder so it's time I do something with it, but I'm not sure what to do with it. Build it or just new bearings.

I mainly drive the car around town and occasional road trip, but I do also drag race it (1.5x 60', traps 130) and occasionally autocross it too.

Is it worth using aftermarket 31 spline parts or is it better to go with a higher spline count?
What would the best differential for multipurpose?

Any suggestions in what to use or where to purchase would be great.
Any master kits out there?

Im in the same boat as you. I was looking at the kit Lethal sells. Its not exactly what I want but I think I may just end up buying it. I was planning on buying the Strange 35 spline axles with c-clip eliminators and their S-Trac 35 spline posi but that posi has a pretty hefty price tag and its not like Im a hardcore drag racer. Im hardly ever at the drag strip so since theres more I wanna do to the car I figured the kit from Lethal should be good enough for me.

I have a 2013 8.8 with Ford 9inch ends ,Moser wave track ,33 spline axles, and 4:10 gears. I am swapping to a 9 inch rear. If you would like to just swap rears I will be selling if interested. I also have a brand new set of 3:73's and pinion bearing and solid spacer that will go with 8.8.

I looked at the Lethal kit too but was afraid the differential would be basically the same thing I currently have.

Unless you need a 9 inch, Strange 9" ends with tapered bearings, 35 spline Strange axles and 35 spline Strange S trac is the way i would go. A Swarr or Che axle housing brace should be installed in addition to the Ford Racing M-4033-G2 diff cover. Moser (ARP) Carrier cap stud kit should go in as well.

Stick with Ford Racing gears. I swapped to 4.10s and i love it so far. My 1320 time should be improved too.

The wavetrac worked fine .Just have to much power to stay with 8.8 .I will take 1500 for everything.

There are a lot of very very fast cars on an 8.8. 9 inch is awesome if you're going to be competitive in short track and 1/4 mile so you can swap centers easily but in a lot of cases totally unnecessary. I'm going to be staying on an 8.8 with 1500+ horse.

Yes sir. Love em. Around town i dont feel like im lugging the engine when in 4th or 5th depending on speed. Havent been on a travk yet but she pulls much harder when i get on it.

80mph in 6th gear is only 200 rpm higher than the 3.73s

For your purposes I would definitely do the Strange 8.8 S-Trac and 35 Spline axles, and see if you can get some 9" housing ends from Moser. If not, the Strange c-clip eliminators are hit-or-miss in terms of leakage. FWIW, I also have welded axle tubes and the Swarr bar.

Don't mean to sound like too much of a novice but I currently am waiting on the 35 spline Strange axle and diff (ordered 6/2 and still hasn't shipped), can you elaborate on the "Swarr bar"? Benefits? Would you say it's a necessity? This is my first time modding the rear end of a car to this degree.

Thanks in advance

No problem!

http://www.swarrauto.com/custom_parts.html

The Swarr Bar is essentially a bolt on brace that reinforces the rear axle housing by absorbing the rotational stresses and fore and aft stresses put on the axle housing during heavy acceleration. Some guys will have them welded in along with the axle tubes.

In my opinion, I think just welding the axle tubes isnt enough. Your asking a simple metal tube to take and absorb all the energy output to the wheels at the end of the axle assembly.

The Swarr bar will bolt onto your wheel weight position at the outer end of the axle, clamp around the tube of the axle, and to the pumpkin via 2 holes you drill into the tabs of the pumpkin housing. This connects all points of the axle together with the center pumpkin being the center "link" if you will.

CHE performance also makes an axle brace:

https://www.cheperformance.com/collections/2011-2014-chassis-and-suspension-bracing/products/che9p

Both the CHE and the Swarr will require custom fabbing if you are going to use LCA relo brackets like BMRs units. CHE manufactures LCA relo's that dont interfere with their brace. Im not sure on their durability, as the BMRs are good to 1000hp.

I had my Swarr custom modified at a local speed shop; shortened on both ends by 1/4". Fit perfectly with the BMR LCA relos. You *may* be able to order direct from Swarr a pre customized brace ready to bolt in if youre using relos. Best to contact them though. I got my Swarr Bar from American Muscle.
