Mod and boredom

I admit, I have a problem. I like to mod stuff. I really do.

Here's my problem: My Coyote is too damn fast as it is.

How is it so, mod-wise? Totally stock BBP '14 GT auto with some mild arm work in the back, a slick tire and a 100 shot.

Why is it too fast? First time out on the spray I hit 11.4 at 120.6.

Do this too many times and the track is gonna kick me out or make me cage it.

This is my DD and rolling office. I can't hack a 6 point cage into this thing.

So, I'm always wanting to do stuff but, Anything I do here is going to make it faster and it's already under the cage limit. Fack, I put a converter in this thing, it'll go 10s easy.

It used to actually require work to haul ass at the dragstrip, ya know?

Anyone else in this dilemma?

I put 5K into making my last 5.0 look good. I put 3x's that amount in engine/exhaust/suspension/wheels/etc on mods for my Boss.

You can spend, spend, spend with these cars. Especially when you buy/break/upgrade crap 2 and 3 times, i.e. motors, wheels, blowers, tranny's, clutches, vinyl graphics, sound systems, etc.

It's already BBP which is as far as I can go handling wise with the crap roads where I am....

It's such an amazing car with potential to do anything anyone could want.

I could probably get a ten with just race gas and the 150 tune I can't use...hehe

You've got some decisions to make. Your not wanting to install a cage forces you to either pull the spray or stop visiting the track. JMO.

Can't do either; the car is boring without spray at the track. Spray makes the car quick/fast enough to be at least interesting. So far nobody complained about being too quick. It's within a tenth after all.

My point being, I kind of goaled out easy with this car. I like to mod but, it's over as bc the car took almost no work to get there. All I can do now is wash and maintain it, which lacks a certain joie de vivre.

Oh well, I know there is no real answer so, what I do to satisfy my urges is race my drag or street bike, where the rules aren't as restrictive. I can go below 10 and at some point they might ask me to get a comp license. My street bike is a stock wheelbase ZX14R so, it provides plenty of challenge.

Why not pull the bottle and make it run 11.50s NA?

That's an idea but, it wouldn't be much of a challenge, I don't think. A converter would put it into the high 11s immediately n/a and exhaust work and a retune for that would probably finish it. Still at full weight and loaded with options. Just too easy, as I said.

Depends on the track if you go with a fire jacket and helmet no one will probably give you crap. They usually dont say anything if its a newer car unaltered body untill you dip into the low tens at over 130.

They are good cats at the local track i run at but, they are crystal-clear on >11.50 needing a cage unless it is truly unmodified. We get Lambos, GTRs, Z06 'vettes, Hellcats, etc. all the time so, they aren't going to be fooled by an MGT going crazy fast. The words were last time, "I'll clear you for 11.50, no quicker." and they documented it. I'm a regular so, it isn't easy to hide. I buried myself in the Domestic class last time, rather than Outlaw, where I usually go bc they prep the track, just to avoid detection. :)

10.99 and Quicker or 135 MPH Roll Cage
Unless it is a full body car with an unaltered firewall, floor, and body
(from firewall rearward, wheeltubs permitted), running
10.00 - 10.99 roll bar permitted

here's my track's rules for the Street Legal races I run in:

* Cars running 11.49 or quicker ET’s (and all convertibles running 13.49 and quicker) must have an NHRA approved roll bar, SFI approved seat belts & jacket.(frame connectors and wheel tubs OK).

the NHRA Street Legal rules are clear: 2008 or newer unaltered vehicles slower than 10.0 don't need a cage. The NHRA clarified unaltered as meaning production stock, including tuning, air intakes or exhaust work. Any changes here are an alteration. Tires are exempted but, they still must be DOT approved so, no slicks.

In my case, the slicks and the nitrous system definitely count as alterations.

When they say unaltered they mean the body not the engine. That means you cant mini tub the car with no cage and go faster than 11.49. You can run 11s if you dont move or drill or mess with the body or firewall. It may be different for different classes. They only thing you need for slick tires is a drive shaft loop. The track will do what ever they want but nhra rules have been that way for awhile.

Many tracks will boot you for 11.49 or faster with an unaltered body in a 2008+ car. Happens all the time. The rule is typically interpreted exactly as 5lho stated.

And yeah it sucks.
