So I'm pretty torn on which axle back I'd like to go with for my 12 GT500, drone doesn't bother me at all as this cars not a daily. I plan on going LTs and off-road X pipe in the future so I know I will pick up tons of volume there but I guess my main concern is the price difference as 800$ for a set of mufflers seems pretty ridiculous. I'm wanting something that will be pretty loud without having an empty/non quality sound. I appreciate the input and any other suggestions!

I had LM II's on one of mustangs and wanted to rip my ears off when rolling down the freeway.

Have you looked at QTP electric cut outs?

I've owned SLP LM1s, LM2s, and ATAKs.

The ATAKs were by far, hands down, the best. Zero drone, tones down nicely when you need them to, sounds better than the LMs under load. Your neighbors won't hate your guts.

The LMs are ear-piercingly loud, drone like a bastard, and have that "pissed off elephant" sound. They're fun, but I sold both sets for the same reasons. Your neighbors will hate you.

I have LM1's with mid lenth headers and o/r x pipe. Pretty loud. I prefer louder. But its destroyed several microphones on friends phones and video cameras. My next set up will be borla ataks.

If you're planning to go full exhaust, especially with a OR-X, then I'd get the Borla's. Put an X with the LM, you're going to be super raspy and annoying loud. The Borla's will tame the "raspiness" a bit and possibly deepen your tone.

Personally, I'd go with an mid-H and Borala's as I prefer the deeper tones. X seems really to get to racecar-like for me.

However, loud/aftermarket exhaust is kind of like pizza. Everyone loves it, but all prefer their own mix of ingredients.

I guess my next question is where is the most reasonably priced place to get the ataks? I noticed someone said the coyote axle backs will work on the car, I checked with AM and the coyote ataks are over 100$ cheaper at like 775$

With your plan of long tubes and off-road xpipe in the future I wouldn't even think about loudmouths. Even the ataks will be very loud with that combo. I have Long tubes, off-road X and the Borla Tourings and that can be fairly tame but the minute you get into the throttle it's pretty damn loud.

I've tried several and ROUSH was the worst for me......Magnaflows were OK.......KOOK's were a little louder but had some DRONE so I finally tried Ford Performance Touring Axle-Backs by BORLA and I really like 'em!!:)

Have a listen!!;)

Very good review, and it helps that you've used all three. I've never been a fan of LM1 or 2. I hate drone. I know little about the Ataks, but if I were to try one of the three, it would be the Ataks just based on what you said.

I got mine from American Muscle and installed them myself in about 4 hours. In reality, they take less time than that, but I made a stupid mistake and had to re-align them afterwards.

I would be most concerned about exhaust tip location differences. The mounting should be the same. If the rear valance has a different cutout, you will be spending more than the $100 saved. Just my $0.02.

The ATAKs look like 4 glasspacks in a single muffler housing. I shined a maglight down the inlet and could see it clear as day through the whole muffler. I expected them to be more obnoxious but was pleasantly surprised at the volume control. Just cruising along, they had less drone than stock GT500 mufflers.
