New motor break in advice

Good morning guys,

just wanted to get some opinion on initial start up for new engine build and oil..

Got a case of Joe Gibbs BR30 break in oil as shop reccomended.. When I asked if I should start it up with different oil and drain it after engine warms up to add the Joe Gibbs oil they stated NO. They suggested Fill it up with the JG BR30 oil start the car and break it in on the dyno.. then change the oil at 500-800 miles..

I just feel like there is alot of crap from inital start up that should be drained after the 1st start up..

I was planing to buy some Dino oil start up the car to check no leaks and coolant temps then drain it and add JG break in oil for 500-800 miles..

What do you guys think?

Do what your engine builder says. That way if something goes wrong they can't point the finger at you.

If you are running a decent filter, there is absolutely no reason to assume that it would not be able to capture all the particles of a size that could be damaging.
Oil filters do matter. If you cant get a Royal Purple or Amsoil filter, use a premium filter from one of the other companies.
For example in no particular order, Mobil 1, Wix XP, Wix, Purolator PureOne, NAPA Gold or Platinum or other high quality premium oil filter.

Thats one way to look at it, but after waiting for monthes to get the engine back I would like to do everything possible to prevent any problems or problems down the road.

Very intresting point, I always used the OEM ford motorcraft filter as I was under the impression those were the best to use on our cars.

For an inexpensive OE paper filter they are actually not too bad, but today there are several significantly better options available. I ran Motorcraft and Ford Racing filters for many years without issues, 1970 to roughly 2011. "Best" however is certainly not a term I would use to describe the Motorcraft filter.

try to bump the timing up a little when warming it up to get it really warm in there. will help break down lubes and other crap used to assemble the motor
