Airbag recall

So I got the letter about the driver's airbag recall from Ford, called the dealer that has done some work on the car (not my selling dealer) and I am told that Ford Canada will only allow a dealer to order 1 airbag a week to do this recall. I had to double check with the advisor about that...............so basically every week they can only fix 1 car.

The other issue is that they want the car there for the day to do this recall, my understanding is that the airbag only takes a few minutes to remove and reinstall and I showed the advisor a video on youtube on how the airbag comes out (the whole video was like a minute and a bit to remove and install the airbag).

I currently start work really early (like 4-5am) and usually don't get home till after 3pm or so really no way to drop the car off unless I take it in the day before and leave it there overnight, I was assured there would be no issue (yeah right, heard that before) but I don't really have a choice so that's what I'll be doing unfortunately.

Actually wanted this recall done on a Saturday first thing and would wait for it but they will only do this recall during the week. Oh well.............

Here was my experience two weeks ago. I scheduled it online and gave them the vin # and the recall number. Thought I should probably make sure they know its a 14' GT500, because I knew the 500's get the whole bag (inducing the cover with snake) replaced and with the Mustangs just the ignitor. I didn't and I shouldn't have to really, but they are humans too and my advisor was mea culpa about it, so I let it go. They don't stock the 500 bag, but had a ton of igniters for Mustangs. He couldn't get the bag delivered that day, but would get it the next day. Bag came in, took the car down, 20 mins, was back on my way. I don't see why they need it a day, thats the point of making appointments.

I requested mine through a dealer in Denver (since the local dealership can't be trusted) weeks ago. Still waiting for a call telling me it's available for install, though Ford reminding me to get it done...

I am waiting for my dealer to get an airbag for my '16 Edge Sport, also a recall. I was told it might be a month or more before I get a call to schedule the replacement.

Already went in to my dealer and he told me he had the airbag and they would swap over my cover......we all know how well this went from there. I haven't been back. Guess I will go to the next town over. Unfortunately, they are equally as incompetent.

No rational reason to leave the car for a whole day, for a less than 30 min. repair. ( the only Mon. - Fri. thing makes no sense either )
Contact Ford customer service, get the phone # of their regional manager, am sure he can straighten it out.

As far as Saturdays go...a lot of dealers, including myself, don't do warranty or recall work on Saturday.

Received my letter in the mail, called my dealer in NH, he ordered it, was in in 2 days. Less than an hour to install.

Took my letter to the dealer last Tuesday and they installed it in 20 minutes today.
I also received the letter and called the dealer about my 14 GT500. I was told they can do the repair by just changing out the igniter? Is that possible or does the entire bag have to be replaced on the GT500?

I guess I was lucky and got mine done on a Saturday, first thing. They were done in like 20 minutes.
Service writer and I walked around the car first thing and then again, after the repair. They understood, which I liked very much.

If any of you need it done in Ohio, Buckeye Ford London will get it done very quickly, maybe 30 minutes tops. I know the Service Dept Manager well. His Tech Roger also owns a GT500 and they are as honest of a dealership as I've ever dealt with. It could also be because I've known Howard the Service Department manager long before doing business with Buckeye Ford. Anyhow hope this helps.

The part that was replaced per the invoice was DR3Z-63043B13-AD which was the driver inflator module which looks to be the whole assembly not simply the igniter.

So if I dont stay by my car, I can expect a properly performed recall with the same steering wheel cover and safe air bag deployment.

Or, the work is performed, the dealership does the work tobmy GT500 but installs a different steering wheel cover... get in accident later, and get permanant Chevy Bowtie installed across face during an accident.
