Comparing a CJ to a Demon?? I guess desperate times call for desperate measures.

The funniest part is the pure ignorance of them not knowing Dodge has had Drag Pak challengers that DIRECTLY compete with the CJ's forever now. But hey lets not compare those two. It makes much more sense to compare a race car to a production street car. Bc...logic.

Comical i tell ya!

Im pretty sure ive never seen timing equipment on the street. So to say it wont run a 9.65 on the street it IMPOSSIBLE. To say they dont have streets out there that hook as good as a track is asinine. My local street racing spot (the pad) hooks BETTER than any track ive been to.

These guys are idiots. Why would they even race these two cars. Obviously the Demon would be more appropriate. ‍♂️

I said it won't run 9.65 on the street, and it won't. That time was run on a prepped drag strip in ideal conditions. And for ****'s sake, I didn't say Ford would mimic the weight savings of the GT350R-C. You implied that it would be impossible for Ford to get the S550 to the weight of the extra portly C7 Z06. I simply used the GT350R-C as an example that, in race livery, the S550 is actually lighter than the C7 Z06. If the GT350R didn't have the Magnaride suspension, its weight would almost be within spitting distance of the C7 Z06.

So what? Anything that runs a 9.65@ 140 on a prepped track will demolish anything the rest of the world produces ON ANY STREET.

Another silly argument.

Ford is already working on carbon fiber composite engine cradles (k-members). I'm sure they have other composite parts in the works, as well. Now, yet again, with the use of their carbon fiber composites and other lightweight materials, the next GT500 could indeed be near the weight of the C7 Z06. I don't know how I can make that statement any simpler, and I'm not even going to try anymore.

Meh. Not going to happen, not with this chassis.

You already own Ford's "lightweight" track car... enjoy it.

The GT500 will be a COMPLETELY different car.

@gimmie11s

You can make a cobra jet street legal. It doesn't have to have a vin number. As someone else said, it's the process used to make a kit car road legal.

Your retort is invalid because people have already done it.View attachment 89170

Carry on.

Lol your attachment shows one "tribute" car with a plate that has a Coyote motor with an airbox?

Come on guy! Laughable at best.

That car could never be tagged legally in California and many states in the Union.

The Demon is FAR superior to any Copo or CJ. Making an argument otherwise is a complete waste of time.

Street legal, Air conditioned, 140 mph quarter mile car? No one compares. Period.

The only joke is this. Come this fall. People will be driving Hellcat's and Demons while you guys are still speculating on here about what the next GT500 will be. Doesn't it get old? Living on a forum making excuses while both Dodge and Chevy are kicking the crap out of Ford right now.

I used to love my GT500, I really did. I also was fully ready to get the new GT500 as a Hellcat replacement. But man...what a let down this year. No GT500 reveal. The GT350R gets its ass handed to itself by a ZL1 1LE and the Demon just nuked whatever plans Ford had for the GT500. I give Chevy credit for mixing HUGE power with handling in the 1Le ZL1...it's a 350R on crack.

But seriously...what the hell is taking Ford so long? Really, what?

You guys are crazy, if you think Ford is going to waste time and resources going after a tugboat when the Mustang's actual rival is tearing up the road courses. The days of straight-line-only Mustangs are [thankfully] over.

Motor Trend is working on a Head2Head episode that puts the ZL1 against the GT350R. We already know the ZL1 is going to win. Chevy didn't build the ZL1 1LE for nothing. They probably have some spies that told them what's coming with the GT500.

I fully expect the announcement in June for the 2018 GT500 available this October. The newest set of spy pics revealed on G6 should show you it's going to be ready. We've been seeing this test mule for quite some time and with the info I've received, it's about done.

Highly unlikely that there will be a 2018 GT500. Don't expect to see a production ready car until the '19 model year starts approaching.

Ok...just out of curiosity, why would Ford wait to make a GT500 in 2019 when there is a major design change for 2020? Think it will be a one year run? Or does a 2 year run, much like the 2013-2014 make more sense? It was supposed to be done for 2017 actually, but hard starting and oil consumption issues with the turbos pushed back production...still betting on 2018.

Everyone? Hmmmm......the Demon will too expensive for the average middle-classer to own. It'd be about as tough as trying to buy a COPO or CJ.

Well, if that's the case, don't bet on seeing another GT500 until the 2020 model year.

If those zip ties on the wheel camouflage are any indicator, whatever that is will be wearing 10-spoke wheels. It's wearing 305/30 20" rubber up front. If that's a GT500, which I somehow doubt, and it comes with 20+" wheels, I'm out. I'll just get a ZL1 1LE.

Because of wheel size lol?

Yep. I don't like NY pizza pans for wheels. Personally, though, I don't think that car is a GT500 prototype. It's obviously wearing the GT350 nose, but I think it's some other special edition Mustang. Back to the wheels, if it is a GT500 and will be wearing 20+" wheels, it better perform amAzingly well for me to even remotely consider buying one. If anything, hopefully it's just an optional wheel.

Interesting thread. Ford is letting the drag racer, street racers down at the moment.

The Demon is king, and I doubt any S550 with a vin on whatever tires it comes on will out drag race a Demon on whatever tire it comes on.

Having said that, if my GT350 had 800 HP, I'd be way more happy than owning a Demon, even if it only went 10:30 on MPSSs
