That's on E85 with 10.5 CR. Was driving aggressively with a heavy foot. Even when I was on 8.5 and 8.39 CR motors I regularly saw mid 230s F in summer and would have been more if pushed the car the way I recently did. Yes on E85. That's what I'm saying in mid hot summer with A/C I see no difference.

Interesting.

Wonder if the 10.5 motor would see in excess of 245 on gas? It's kind of a hard thing to compare apples to apples I suppose....since you are running much more boost and timing on the E85 setup vs gas.

Yes I am now but on my old setup I used to run the exact same pulley combo and even the same tune with the same timing on both pump and E85. To be exact I was running 91 octane with a 50/50 water/methanol blend that would spray in boost and my E85 measured E70 at that time.

My current setup is E85 only and runs a true E85 that measures E85 in the summer and E78 in the winter.

Taking this a bit off course but the hotter it's running the more the oil will thin out (to a point). What's acceptable oil pressure at idle?

Aa Malcolm said newer engines are designed to run hotter from the factory to reduce emissions so 220+ isn't supposed to be a big deal. Since our cars are known to have loose fitting valve seats from the factory, I would do all I could to keep temps down and install a hcm.

E85 definitely helps slow warm up temps but in 100 degree heat with the ac on temps get just as high as on gasoline. If the Lincoln fan was a 100% bolt in deal with no modding required id go that route in a heart beat.

Stock gauge won't move till the car sits at 245-250 for 10-15 minutes. Factory timing/limp mode is 255. My car got to 270 because of a air pocket that randomly developed and nothing happened, the car is just fine and all tests say so.

One more point. It is the water in the radiator/block that cools the engine, not the antifreeze. I run more water and less coolant (70% water/30% coolant).

If you think the antifreeze cools the engine better, try running a 100% antifreeze. OTOH, 100% water will work great for a while, but antifreeze is needed to lubricate the water pump and prevent corrosion inside the block.

If you have problems with the radiator getting clogged up, try using purified water instead of tap water. Here in the Atlanta area, my tap water has minerals which can build up deposits inside the block and radiator, like cholesterol. Besides, it's cheap insurance.

And in my experience, overheating may ruin the thermostat. Every time in the past I have overheated, I end up replacing the thermostat. Besides, it's cheap insurance.
