I did a little searching and didn't have much luck. I ordered my VMP kit last week and it'll be in on Wednesday and my car will go under the knife the next day. I have a set of longtubes to go on as well. The VMP guy told me they couldn't shut off the rear O2's anymore due to EPA restrictions and fines so my question is, is there a way for me to do that myself? Once I recover from all the spending, I'm gonna have AED retune me because I've always used Shaun for all my stangs just don't have the 600 to drop after spending the 8 or so grand I have. So I'd like to figure out a way to shut off my rear O2's myself for now. Anyone know any tricks?

Use anti-foulers.... you can make your own with parts from autozone.... a quick search on here will turn up how to do it....

Shaun at AED leaves the rear o2s turned on. He does something so they won't throw a code for no cats. I believe his reasoning is the rears are used to calibrate the fronts so he likes them to be on. Send him an email and he will explain it in depth. He made a post on it in the s197 section a couple of months ago.

Thanks man. Shaun is my usual tuner but I figured I would just use the VMP tuner since its in the price of the package. I tried to get them to knock off enough for to turn around and just have Shaun do it but they didnt budge. I dont really see why they arent willing to do what Shaun is or maybe they dont know how to do it without breaking some emission law. From what I read and what he told me, he cant make the light shut off without disabling the emission controls in the PCM.

The vmp tune doesn't throw a check engine light either with no cats

That's weird, the day after I ordered one of their guys called me and said since I had longtubes that they wouldn't be able to shut off my check engine light with their tune because it was now illegal

Let me pipe in. This is our Emissions Statement. The Clif's Notes of it is this:

It is a Federal offense (felony in fact) to eliminate or disable ANY Federally mandated emissions device, sensor, etc. Period, end of story. Been this way since the Clean Air Act of 1967.

It was common practice by some to simply turn them off when an "off road" pipe was used in order to quell codes. Or, they left them on and manipulated the calibration in such a manner that it "fooled" the system. Both are illegal, thus we do neither.

A couple of years ago (thank you Volkswagen and Harley-Davidson) this stuff was all brought to the forefront again and the EPA went after it big time. Companies (tuning, shops, etc) have literally been put out of business because of infractions such as this. It is a key topic at SEMA.

Regardless of links you can pull up from years past, we highly suggest you contact your favorite calibrator and ask them directly if they will really do this for you.

I hope this helps clarify as to why we have this policy and perhaps it sheds some light as to the state of the industry.

The tunes we supply leave everything intact and operational. Your rears on or off will have no bearing on performance. You MAY get a check engine light for catalyst inefficiency. Yep, no cats= inefficient. Not a big deal to 95% of our tuning customers. They get it and don't care.

Again, here's our stance, from our Terms and Conditions on the website.

How much power did you make with TVS? Any issues with increased heat production? I'm considering TVS vs whipple and centri.

I havent had a chance to get it on just yet. I'm waiting on my buddy who owns a shop to get a clearing in his schedule so I can steal one of his lifts. I've got a set of longtubes going on with it and we both think 600+whp is going to achieved. Depending on what you want to do with car will help you pick which blower. The TVS is a torque monster down low more so than a centri will be so if you want a super fun DD than a TVS is the answer. The whipple is an awesomne piece but with the bigger displacement blower, is typically used for high power goals. So if you dont plan on trying to reach hyper speed in your car, you could save some coin and go with the TVS. Thats how I made my mind because I was in the exact same boat as you. I want to sit around 600-700whp so the TVS was perfect for me.

I'm not sure why but I am leaning even more towards TVS now rather than a centri even though its slightly more expensive. It must be the low end torque and the sound. Ive had 03 Terminator and a CTSV and really enjoyed that power down low. My only concern is the heat production of TVS.

Both are great options, heck, so are turbo(s). If there is one piece of advice I could give you it would be to not rush. Take your time and see if any local car owners of each faction could give you a test drive. I fell in love with the single turbo curve, but I genuinely believe it is a fall back for a daily driver. Superchargers give you the genuine fun through any drive and are provide killer daily drivers.
VMP/Whipple/Paxton/Vortech/Procharger are all good options, but each has their pluses/minuses.
If you want to talk more in depth about it all, hit me up with a PM.

Btw, OP, you'll be fine if it throws a CEL. I had it until I had foulers done up. Enjoy your VMP :)

Thanks for following up. I owned an 03 Cobra over 10 years ago, and the ported eaton and 491rwhp was as far as I ever got. I now have a 2015 GT that I'd like to put a positive displacement blower on. They are great daily drivers with the torque.
