The area and beaches are nice (if you like that type of thing). Lot's to do throughout the year. Simply put, it's a nice place/area.

Thanks for the reply. Do you recommend any area in particular to look for housing? I dont need anything big, maybe a 2/3 bedroom, I would most likely be renting at first and need at least a garage.

It depends really, work location , near water, etc. Melbourne's a nice area, go a little north to Cocoa, or Palm Bay, Indian River, a little south, Sebastian, or Vero. Get in touch with a realtor through your potentially new employer and let them know what you are looking for. I am sure you will find it.

Melbourne is a great town. I can't provide you w/specifics because I live a couple counties south but we have awesome weather 8+ months a year, beautiful beaches & there's loads to do here year round & outside.

I'm just south of Melbourne (Sebastian area), and although I don't much traveling up that direction, I do know that area is generally nice. I'm not sure what your job is, but if means allow, I would look around the Indialantic area (east side of Mel). I bought some stuff from a guy on CL from there and the whole area was real nice. Surrounded by water and ocean with plenty of sidewalks to do some morning or evening jogs/walks.

Melbourne is ok. Has good and bad parts, i would try to live on the beach or in south Merritt island. Viera or suntree is in northern part of Melbourne. Those areas are nice. I wouldn't go near Palm Bay or cocoa. South Rockledge is ok but that is on the northern part of Melbourne. If you can afford it satellite beach or Melbourne beach is nice.

I'm an Engineer, don't get me wrong, I want to rent on a nice are but not looking to buy a house yet or spend tons of money renting an extremely nice house. I had an interview with one of the aerospace companies so now I'm waiting to hear back. Anything will be better than living here in MI though.

You will probably like the area and should be able to find something that you are looking for, short and long term. With the new administrations different view on NASA and DOD, you may even see an uptick on the economy there and timing could be right for you. Good luck.

Thanks, that's what I talked about with the guy that called me from the company. He was saying that the views and procedures have changed at a lot of the big companies and that its a good time to move since the outlook on the area looks positive in the upcoming years. I'm originally from PR and ended up in MI due to the automotive field but the cold weather and lack of surfing is already getting to me. Hopefully Ill hear back from them soon, plan is to either move to GM and stay here 5 more years or find a job down in FL. Had interviews for both options a week apart so now we wait.

I'd wager you're probably referring to Northrop. They are aggressively expanding in that area. I still technically live in Melbourne, although I'm working up here. I had no trouble renting out my house. The local market is exploding, which might make it hard for someone in your position to find a place easily.

Most of what has been said is true. Suntree and the north side of Melbourne are nicer areas. Palm Bay and Rockledge are hit and miss. The riverfront area is typical nice, as is beachside as well. Going north or south further starts to get pretty rural, which means cheaper housing but longer commuting.

Aside from the beaches, there's not all that much to do there. Mel-boring was a common in-joke for the locals.

You got it! lol Thanks for the info, Ive been looking at houses and like you and others have said north and south tend to find better prices for the size of the house. As for the boring part, you cant beat Michigan in the boring department, been here 3 years and apart from camping and hunting theres not much you can do. Im originally from PR so I enjoy the warmer, tropical weather.

Just remember better (cheaper) prices don't really mean it's still a nice area. They are cheaper for more house for a reason

Oh I know, typically goes the other way cheap and not too good. What I meant was that looking at places some people have mentioned Ive noticed the prices go down away from the main area. Funny thing is I just moved my Cobra from Orlando to MI and I may have to move it back lol

I have a small starter hole that will be listed forsale very soon in west Melbourne. I also have tons of family who live there. Let me know if you have any other questions? Thanks
