Unless you really do settle for a regular cab, you're not going to get a 4X4 6.5' Bed F-150 for 30K brand new. I think you'd kick yourself if you don't at least get a supercab.

Why are you so worried about buying new and eating depreciation while the truck mostly sits? I think you're in a prime spot to pick up a 2013(ish) with under 40,000 miles for well below your budget. Money left over to put on the mortgage. Win-Win.

Thats a hell of a deal. Id probably swing for that if I saw something similar, even though its little over the budget. Game plan is to start test driving them first week of April. We're about to head out on vacation soon, then the big renovation starts on the new house. That is why we need the truck, so we will hopefully be purchasing it before then.

It is getting close to the end of the month and quarter, good time to find a "deal".

the new aluminum body is amazing. I drove the old 5.0 4x4. It was more "truck like" but it was no comparison to the 2015 ecoboost I bought. Handled WAY better. And of course twin turbo = winning. The EB is a great motor but the pre 2013 had issues with timing chain phasers. That being said, look for a low mileage 2014-2016. For a 30k budget you will have to stay with 2wd.

I've bought 6 new trucks since 08 for various reasons, 2 chevy, 3 dodge 1 ford. The Ford I actually disliked driving, it was an ecoboost, was a really good deal but wasnt a color i could get used to or liked, and the brakes/steering were just uncomfortable.

I will say Ford has a better quality interior, at least at the lariat level. I do see more platinum f150's in one day then high country, longhorn half tons in a year. Have never had a problem with any of them tho and ford held its value much better.

I'm in the market again and not going to even look at dodge, trying to justify a new raptor but it's a little hard.

I disagree 100%. The brakes stop on a dime and the handling is amazing with the aluminum body ....

Didn't say they weren't good, they just weren't for me, or the ecoboost. And mine was a 12' so I imagine they're much better. I shouldnt have bought that dark red, its horrible but it was a steal and i ended up not losing a dime, only time ever.

I'll see what the local ford dealers have on the lot tomorrow. Yes the ecoboost has plenty of torque but I just wasn't happy with the purchase.

The aluminum body makes all the difference IMO. I love my truck. Feels so much different than my buddy's 2014 which is optioned just like mine.

Check out the Ram 1500. No reason not to. The 5.7 and 8 speed transmission are an awesome combination. I had a 2014 and loved it. Only got rid of it because wife wanted an SUV.

Last year my father bought a brand new 1500 Silverado 4 door cloth seats power window and the touch screen stuff. No just a strippo 4x4 for 28k

In December this year he bought another truck EXACTLY the same as his 1500 except it's a 2500 for a little over 35k. Brand new. Deals are out there it seems.

I have experience with two out of the big three.

2016 F-150 3.5 eco boost: Great driving truck, rode great and was very quiet inside. I had a Platinum so it had more bells and whistles than I cared for. MPG was around 17 average and the EB had good power.
Bad: The 16' ecoboost had DI so valves had carbon build up and there was a large amount of fluid accumulated in the Heat Exchanger. I ran a catch can from UPR and would have ALOT of milky fluid every 2-3 weeks. Not something I was willing to own for the long haul.
Aluminum body panels: This is heavily debated but I could watch the door panel skins move when opening the doors. So much so that all of them have what looks like a door ding by the handle openings.
Aluminum corrodes: call it what you may but aluminum oxidizes just like steel it just turns white and chalky so don't believe the hype. Now I never worried about puncturing a hole in my bed because I wouldn't do that to such an expensive truck.

2017 GMC Sierra with a 6.2
Power for days! Did I mention power? Also get around 17mpg. It rides great and has a very quiet cab. I also like the underseat storage but there is not as much rear seat room as the F-150. I also run a catch can due to the DI and carbon on valves. (2017 F-150's added another set of injectors to clean the valves)

Bad: I am not a fan of the 8speed (yet). I only have 500 miles on it and they say it takes 1-1500 for the TCM to learn and adjust to my driving style.
91 or better octane is recommended for towing. I have run 87 for just driving around and the 93 lasts longer for obvious reasons.
Frame wax: I HATE that GM uses frame wax on their trucks! If you drive on a dusty road it's like being tarred and feathered. GM has been doing this for a while though and I haven't heard of any serious rust issues though.

Take all that I am still more pleased with the GMC mainly because of the 6.2 and I feel like the seats were more comfortable.

After all the replies, we are starting to consider a slightly used F150 (2015ish) with 10-20k miles that is within our price range.

On a side topic, has anyone ever purchased from Carmax? Opinions? Ive always been told that you can find better deals, but their prices looked pretty decent.

I don't care what anyone says. The aluminum makes me nervous.

I love my 2015 f150 it rides more like a car and it has tons of power.

only thing you will need is a catch can. it's $200 and keeps the PCV system whistle clean. With a SCT and tune the ecoboost makes real good power. She will tow basically anything.
