My gf and I adopted a pit from a local shelter 2 years ago, it was a ****ing circus because the shelter sent her off to a foster after we signed and paided for her. She ended up biting the Foster's chihuahua from being stressed and was going to have her put down. My gf's college professor has from high up friends with a animal rights (not really I just can't think of the programs name, maybe the aspca) and they helped us get our dog from these assholes.

Adopting a shelter or rescue dog isn't for everyone, but it is worth it for us.

That's kimber, when we got her she was 55lbs and was malnourished. She was on medication for a skin infection and had most of her hair falling out. She ripped her nails out from stress. Today she's 87lbs of lazy but loyal friendship. She still hasn't figured out how to swim yet lol. The cat, we took in after our neighbors abandoned him as a kitten. They do everything together.

My newest rescue dog. Got the call about him the night before flying to texas to get a pup. Pup bonded to him immediately. Some small behavior issues but overall a wonderful dog. Both had to be taught the leash so they learned it together.

Our two big dogs are basically rescues. We got the rottie/lab from a friend that tried to rehome him because he was coming of age and wanted to be in charge so he started going after the older dog. Originally their neighbors offered to take him in, but mistreated him bad. They ended up transferring (military) and planned on leaving him in his kennel the weekend we grabbed him. I said we'd take him for the weekend to see how he got along with the cat and dog we already had. 10 years later he's still the biggest baby I know.

A friend found our shepherd abandoned under a mobile home covered in fleas. She was about 8 weeks old and covered in fleas. Him and his girlfriend cleaned her up and got her puppy shots done, but didn't have the room to keep her. So we took her in. Somehow I became her favorite. It's 10 years old now and is usually within a couple feet of me whenever I'm home.

Recently the wife and I talked about taking in older dogs when our current dogs pass. We're going to take a break for a bit, but when the time comes I think it would be nice to give a good home to the older dogs that were abandoned.
