I've got the 2.9 Whipple along w a FRPP 65mm Dual CJTB on the way. Will have LT's, H-Pipe, ID1000's, JLT CAI, NGK Plugs, Custom Tune, etc. Driveability is important as I'm daily driving my GT500 but per usual want to maximize power output as well.

Anyone try the L&M Dual 72mm unit on a daily driver? How does it behave low speed/stop n go? I know the 65mm Dual CJTB will have excellent street manners but might be too restrictive? Please share your thoughts/experiences.

My Shelby has had the following throttle boys on there. Dual 65CJ 72mm L&M, 168mm KB and a 170 elliptical.....with proper tuning street manners was exactly the same difference only being on WOT pulls.......Max power is gonna come from either a 168 or a 170 elliptical ....Seeing you have a whipple go with the 170 ........not sure what boost you are running on the 2.9 but you may want to spin it to at least 21psi as i had a 2.9 before and found it lazy down low at 19-20 psi

I had the big Whipple monoblade on my 2007 w 3.4 Whipple setup back in 2008 and the driveability was generally fine except at tip in from a stop. Agree max hp w big mono but being daily driver I'm erring on side of Dual TB driveability.

Whipple 2.9 will be pullied for 18 - 19 psi as this is a pump gas setup. Will just have to adjust gearing to match the powerband. Of course will be on 20" DR's so a bit off the early tq might help w traction on the street.

I don't have a Whipple but I've run a FRPP Cobra jet mono on all 3 of my daily driven Shelbys. When tuned properly you can't tell the difference between the mono and stock TB except for the mono being more responsive.

It's all about the tuner, who tuning yours?
The VMP 72 looks just like the BPS twin 73 that looks just like the L&M 72, at least to me.
I'm assuming you have an L&M?
If not just go VMP as it's new and they will support it and help tune it.
I also have my BPS I'll sell as my car has the 170 Whipple now, but any other TB will make more than your current CJ twin.
Still, is 25rwhp worth it if you have great drive ability with the CJ twin and your main concern is street manners?

I just bought a Dual 72mm L&M TB from HP by Hermann this afternoon. He gave it rave reviews for driveability and says it's worth 25rwhp-30rwhp over my 65mm CJTB. Looks like a serious piece!

Sam @ Coastal Dyno in Tampa FL is handling my entire install and custom 93 pump gas dyno tune. Have had great experience w Coastal in the past.

I would agree on that power estimate and agree that if tune correctly it should have good drive ability. Several have had issues with drive ability on those TBs, but I believe most is tune related. So, hopefully you'll be good on the tune.
TB looks good, looks just like my BPS and I like the airflow aiding design and maxed out size.
Good luck.

Twin 65mm flows 1517cfm.
The FRPP mono flows 1797cfm.
Threads on this site complaining about driveability issues with the mono generally turn out to be tune related.
Had a twin 65 on my 11, ( 2.9 ), upgraded to a mono & saw no difference in smoothness........That's why there is a mono on my 14. ( 3.4 )

I agree generally. I had the 160mm Whipple monoblade on my 3.4 equipped 07' Shelby build back in 08'. Driveability was solid and we can start splitting hairs over small things like tip in smoothness and such. I can see the science behind why 2 smaller blades/bores have low speed advantages and hence I think this is why they get more consistent marks for drivability.

How much boost are you running on your 3.4 14'? Stock motor? I want to keep things safe and targeting ~ 725rwhp as a good pump gas max for my stock 13' motor. Thoughts?

Boost on the 14 is @ 19.21. ( 93 octane tune )( not a canned tune )
Stock bottom end, 3.5" blower pulley, stock lower pulley, LT's.

If you already have the FRPP twin 65mm, go with the SCJ monoblade. You won't need a retune, there will be zero driveability issues, and you'll pick up 20 - 30 HP at the wheels.

Well Sam at Coastal Dyno got my car completed today and this particular 72mm L&M is causing drivability issues. Tuner ready to pull it and suggests new CJ 65mm Twin or VMP 67mm Twin. HP by Herman where I bought it ensures me with more detailed tuning it will be perfect. My tuner disagrees especially for my daily driven GT500. Really frustrating as I've got $550 into this L&M 72mm and car is stranded at shop until I resolve issue or order replacement TB. Argh!!

I'm done playing TB roulette. The monoblade units may flow great but are not spoken of highly for true smooth driveability by any of the reputable tuners/shops. I had a Whipple monoblade on my 3.4 equipped 07' GT-500 and I could say it had good driveability but it was not perfect w occasional stumbles at tip in/low speed. Being a daily driver I'm not risking having a quirky TB in traffic.

That said, I ordered the highest flowing and most reputable/proven TB for performance an drivability that is currently available the VMP Twinjet 67mm. Maybe I'm leaving a few hp on the table but I believe this will make the car the most enjoyable to drive.

I'm selling the L&M 72mm Dual TB if anyone is interested. Purchased from HP by Herman last month and he swears by this unit for a max effort street driven GT-500 build. $500 shipped!
