hey guys I'd like to rent a U-Haul auto transport trailer to pull a car with my lightning.

Has anyone used one of these U-Haul auto transport trailers with their lightning ?

I'm assuming you do not want to drop hitch because these trucks are already much lower than a regular F150.

Any thoughts on this receiver ? Or would you recommend another ?

Hi there, I really do not tow with my Lighting, though use hitch receiver to mount a cargo carrier. When we go outdoors, there is always something left, so I decided to use my hitch for this purpose. And the receiver mount you've posted above seems to be fine. I personally never used it, as I said, but to me it looks reliable and .... I like the price, especially if it is OEM-quality, should be a good investment. Good luck in your trip, man! Cheers!

Even if that receiver ends up being too low it can be flipped to give a couple inch raise. Turn off overdrive if it seems to be shifting a lot in and out of overdrive or if your coming up to a hill. No experience towing with a lightning but tons with other half tons up to 1 tons

I prefer to tow with OD off unless on the flattest ground with the 4R100, but that's from the diesel world. Depending on the car you may have a tough time getting uhaul to loan the trailer based on GVWR of the truck, weight of the car and trailer. Lightnings are pieces of shit to with in my opinion.

I have a 2001 that I have towed with and think its great. Better than my old dodge 1500. I don't use OD unless long flat. I have seen both arguments but prefer not to us the OD.

Last year I towed a fox mustang from Tacoma, WA to Mississippi. Only time I turn off over drive was when I was going through Utah because of the mountains. That's only because I got some bad gas and it lost power and started pinging..once that was resolved(multiple bottles of octane boost), I had no problems. I was running at speed limits or right below. Most of the time I was using the cruise. I used the same hitch you posted and used my car trailer, which I believe may be heavier than the uhaul ones. The only issue I had was putting that many miles on my truck, LOL it crossed the 50k mark on the trip. Just do it.
