I've got an HK USP .45 and love it. I'd try the HK and if it fits get it with a rail mounted light or light /laser combo. Of course it really doesn't matter what you get, you will be buying another in short order. They are addictive.

I currently have a Glock 32 on my bedside table and my wife has a g19. I really like the cz97 great gun very accurate and handles recoil very well. Has somewhat limited capacity. I just picked up a cz PCR with some custom work done. I think they make very good guns. I might be tempted to go with the FN more capacity and give you a rail if you want to run a light. Honestly I dont think you can go wrong with any of them. I would rent them all and see what fits you best.

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice guys. I shot both the fnx 45 tactical and h&k 45 tactical and loved the ergo on the H&K. It was hard to pass on the fn due to the awesome ammo capacity and great package deal with mags and light but, I couldn't get over how great the H&K felt.

For my bedside protection I've got a governor.
4 410 pdx1's and 2 45long colts in her.

To me the spread of that gun is fantastic and when half awake that's kinda what you need. Plus the shear size of that thing is scary enough to an intruder or anyone not familiar with handguns.

Does that one
If only that were legal up here in CT. :(
I just looked at CT assault weapons laws.
Just when I thought our laws were ****ed I realize we don't have it that bad.
At least I can still own these guys.

My HK45 is also in the photo not to derail this thread.
As far as magazine laws go we have it worse.
Our centerfire semi-auto rifle mags are limited to 5 rounds.
This aluminum rivet is what stops criminals from posessing 30 round magazines in Canada.
Thank God our criminals aren't very smart.

I do carry it in the winter more often. I'm just a smaller framed guy and in the summer in vegas it's much easier to not print with the shield.

For home defense and a nice, full sized handgun, I would go for a Sig 226. A bit pricier, but well worth the money, IMO. So smooth, so accurate, lots of upgrade goodies etc.

Second on my list would be the same as SID, either an XD or Glock 19. Both of these have proven to be really great handguns with lots of aftermarket goodies.

I love my 9mm S&W Shield (Performance Center model). Fits perfect in my hand, easy to conceal, and shoots well. My gun safe sits on top of our front headboard ensemble (shelf). My wife is fine with that. So accessing the Shield literally takes 4 seconds. So in my case it is my weapon of choice for both daily carry and home defense.

Honestly, whichever one feels great in the hand and you are accurate with.

Id personally recommend Glock. Literally the AK47 of pistols. I had a Glock 22 in .40 and not once had an issue with reloads or factory ammo.

My next pistol will be a Glock in 10mm using Underwood ammunition.

I followed my dad's lead and got a Judge with 410 slug ammo and a laser sight. One for the house and one in the truck.

Sorry, but 410 is absolutely horrible for a protection round. I highly recommend staying away from it for anything other than a youth hunting round. It has little to no penetration at all and has a high probability of not even phasing an intruder. If the intruder is wearing a coat, you're screwed completely.
