Hey guys, so it looks like the chances of me ever getting an active trackey for my Boss are slim. I'm not giving up but definitely looking into my options. Is there a plug and play tune, something like a Bama tuner from American Muscle that will give me similar performance gains and a nice lopey idle? For those of you with custom tunes, what did you use and are you happy with it? Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

Most of the lopey idle tunes run like crap, but most of the major tuners offer one (without cats).
My suggestion is grab an offroad midpipe and get a tune from Lund, AED, or VMP with the lope tune option.

Bama tunes are the worst.

As I mentioned all I got with my Boss was the track key and frankly there's not a big lope like you get with the crappy fuel puking lope tunes that really chop. I think the small lope is more from the Boss cams than anything. If you want a tune there's better options like aed, Steeda custom tune and a guy named Sai Li who is an awesome tuner...

Thanks for the input guys. AED is only about 2.5 hours away from me so I'm thinking that's my best bet.

I went through all of the stuff in the trunk of the car last night and I found the package for the Trackey Flash! It was opened, but the voucher and instructions are inside. I really think that the original owner installed the flash so maybe all I need to do is get the key. I am going to the dealership he bought it from next week to see if they can confirm it. If not I believe Ford will refresh your ECU IF you have a voucher and send it in to them. If not, I am going to AED and let those guys have some fun with it!

Shaun@AED is fantastic, both pre and post purchase. The Bosses are incredible stock, and with a good reflash they are wicked! Almost feral. So much fun.

Good to know! I was looking at some youtube videos of a Boss that was tuned at AED. It sounds wicked!!! This guy:

So awesome. I was really hoping to get the Trackey going to keep the car original. But if I can't I am definitely going with a tune like this.

The Trackey was actually pretty watered down by the time it was released, at least in terms of the lopey idle. The preproduction version sounded great but then the one they released wasn't as lumpy - I seem to recall that the lope caused problems with the cats. In fact, I am pretty sure that AED, Lund, etc won't do a lopey idle tune for you if you still have cats but it's been a long time since I inquired.

That clip you sent has a cat delete FYI. Looks and sounds fantastic!

Go with aed and never look back....Shaun is the man when it comes to tuning....excellent customer service...and he sent me my idle tune and I still have my cats on for now...he just explains that it's not good to run it for long periods of time and would prefer to have the cats gone....my boss runs like a scalded dog!!!

Go Lund... you'll never look back at some no HP gaining track key novelty item.

I would have posted AED but until one of two, AED or SCT figure out why my rev limiter doesn't work. I will give no high fives to either.

Here is mine with the AED Lopey idle tune. Feel free to check out the rest of my channel for other videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=se7tj6aQQGE

Sounds great! Thanks for sharing. I got my Red key to work and I am very happy with it. Since I am trying to maintain the original integrity of the car I'm going to stick with it. For now. Who knows what I'll do 6 months down the road!

Aren't there other features to be gained with the track key like launch control and increased engine braking? Do the aftermarket tunes add these? My track key has not been activated and I have been holding off partially because I'd like to run long tubes and partially because I don't know where to buy the code at this point or if the dealer can still do it.

Trackey does do more than just engine mods. Supposedly over 200 parameters of the car are changed. Although I've never found a list that details everything. I think Ford doesn't want to release all of that info. If you don't have a code yet I do not think that you will be able to get it but you might as well try. Here is a link:

I would do it ASAP if you are interested. You will have to have your PCM sent to Ford Racing to get it done. The dealerships are no longer allowed to download the tune.

I have the AED loopy idle tune and I had it on the car about 30 minutes, after a drive I got CEL for random misfires. Lund wrote the first loopy idle tune for the Coyote engine back in 2011. I am not a big fan of the loppy idle tune, so don't take my word. I think its mustang rice. it was so sloppy and ran so rich the exhaust burnt my eyes. An aftermarket tune is best when supporting mods like headers or a larger CAI. If the car is stock no parts changed you won't gain much.

Thanks for the info! I got my trackey installed so I am not going to do an aftermarket tune. But who knows how I'll feel down the road. I definitely don't want eye burning exhaust!

Just an added note.... I was told aftermarket lumpy idle tunes usually require removal of the cats. Failure to do so will make a mess of the cats in no time.
