Guys,

Has anyone had their stock battery terminal connectors crack like in the pic below? This is the negative post and the one that ends up being disconnected most often so I guess the years have just taken their toll.

Is there a Ford OEM part number for a new one of these hoops that go over the battery terminal that I can just bolt on to the existing wire? Or should I just go aftermarket with something like this?

I don't want to have to modify any more than is necessary, I'm just hoping to re-establish a secure connection with the battery. Thanks!

I'm considering replacing mine with marine style terminals that have a post. This way I can redo the ends of my wires with new ring terminals.

Yes, that's an option since the OEM ones never looked too strong to begin with but I figured I would just try that route first if it's even possible so many years later now. If you don't mind, can you share a link as to what you might be looking to get?

I know a lot of guys get new ones when they upgrade the stereo in their cars and I've read that just going to a local car stereo shop might be able to provide me with something. I guess Crutchfield online might also be an option.

Thanks for the reply.

I just replaced my negative this weekend. Bought a $4 replacement from O'Reilly. Cut the wire at the factory connector. Stripped and installed in new connector. Took 5 minutes taking my time

Thanks for the tip on the O'Reilly part. Do you have a part number and/or pic of the final job that you can post? Thanks!

That looks similar to something I found locally at Walmart. Close but not exactly right. Thanks for the link to eBay though!

I just used one of those big old lead block units with gold plating from the auto story. Don't look stock but works a billion times better

I just went though this with my 2004 mustang gt. These are as close to the oem terminal connector as I could find.

I didn't have nor could I find the crimping tool to crimp these terminal connectors like the factory did so I took my cable to a local auto parts store that had a machine shop attached to it and they crimped it for me. They also had the terminal connector in stock so I bought it from them and they crimped it for me at no charge.

If you want to replace the whole cable this is as close as I could find

Thanks for the info. I knew others must have had to deal with this issue before but, in searching the forums, I couldn't find much in terms of a solution.

It seems more and more likely that I won't be able to find the exact OEM part but I'll have other options. I just want to be as minimally invasive as possible and don't want to to have to replace anything that isn't broken. It's just that one small piece! LOL

Thanks again!

The only reason Ford uses those "OEM" style is cost savings.

Manufacturing costs are likely 25-cents each. The lunks I bought are better but the manufacturing cost is likely $2 each.

Times $1.75 per X-million vehicles a year, and that's a substantial savings.

Jut go to AutoZone and grab a set of these for $8 and be done with it forever. They look better in my opinion anyways.
