Correct!

Coolant will expand and in a V8 car there is a lot of coolant to expand.
Leave about two inches in the rad tank, seal it, then fill the rest through the crossover.

Then check it cold after the next three or four drive cycles at the burp plug, after relieving the rad cap pressure but RESEALING IT PRIOR TO removing the burp cap.
Cool, thanks. I did remove some of the coolant from the tank and re-sealed it. Then I filled it from the CC plug but it did not take much at all--just a few ounces as I squeezed the upper rad. hose to help get any air out. So it may be good now. I cycled it after that yesterday with the heater on so I'll check it today like you described and see if it needs any more.

It just seems different that the system wouldn't suck the necessary coolant from the tank vs. having to fill it in the CC tube. I guess this all has to do with trapped air so I'm ssuming once that is out, the level can be checked from the tank? I think the small hole that I have drilled into the t-stat helped with bleeding the air out of the system quickly.

I wanted to add that using a plastic water wetter bottle with bottom cut off works for a great funnel ! I used a few wraps of electrical tape on threads and threaded it into coolant tube . Then do as thet say and fill 1/4 way up and watch the bubbles come out .

Thanks for writing this post. I have been having nothing but problems trying to get all of the air out of my coolinf system. its like it has a mind of its own. It might be fine for 2 days then all of a sudden its coming out under the cap..

Make yourself a fill/burp rig. These work great. You can see the air leaving the system and you can control the fluid going in.

My cobra has 4300KMS on it with original coolant; do I need to do this procedure to change the coolant or can I assume there's no air and simply drain the system and refill it?

I didn't when I did mine. I did use the jumper wire trick when filling it, and hit it with some compressed air and a rag in the tank too.
