The whole story is, I actually don't think there's anything wrong with my cats. I'd brought the car to the shop for a rattle that had appeared after having run over a rock. After the shop that quoted me $700, I went to another shop that I trusted, and they showed me that the rattle was actually...
Thanks for the quick reply. I guess you're right. Still, it stings to have to spend that kind of money, with no options. It's better when things break that can be upgraded. Haha.

A muffler shop has deemed my drivers' side catalytic converter to be damaged inside (cracked honeycomb), from dragging over speed bumps. I'm not convinced that's true, but let's just say it is. In California, is there any legal way to install a new aftermarket catted midpipe, rather than...
Another note, I just remembered. With the stock radiator, with AC on or off, the cooling fan would run almost constantly in hot weather, even on the highway--sometimes even the high-speed fan.
With the Mishimoto, the cooling fan never runs on the highway (once up to speed), and the high-speed...
That's the same issue I had. The motor ran pretty hot with the AC off, but very hot with it on. With the Mishimoto radiator, it runs cool even with AC on--perhaps even more so because, with AC on, the cooling fan runs constantly when traveling at lower speeds, and the Mishimoto sheds heat very...
I've had mine for about 8 years. Bought it with 89k miles on it, and it's got 129k now. It runs even better now than it did when I got it.

Your temperatures seem reasonable, to me. We could always make the cars run cooler if we wanted, with lower fan-on settings, and a cooler thermostat. Your temperatures sound good to me though.

I wanted to add, these temperatures are per my digital stepper motor Autometer gauge, which as I indicated, reads about 4 degrees hotter than the PCM sensor. So as far as the computer was concerned, you could knock 4 degrees off of each of the temperatures I mentioned.

Good question. Well, with the stock radiator and AC condenser, my motor ran extremely hot. I saw close to 240 degrees before, even driving it gently. It would even run close to 230 on the freeway. Years ago, I swapped out the dense AC condenser, for the newer type. This alone made very little...
Nice! Glad you cleared that up. That mere four degree difference thing was confusing me. Makes sense now.

Now I'm wondering if I understand it wrong. Here's how I thought it worked: The hot coolant comes out of the driver's side crossover, where the gauge sensor is--and the hot coolant flowing through that downtube is what eventually opens the thermostat. When the thermostat is closed, that hot...
I appreciate the info, btw. The part I might be confused about is the direction of coolant flow. My point was, to the OP, that that's the hot side of the system, either way. Would you agree? Thanks again.

By the way, I thought the side of the crossover where the gauge sensor was, was where hot coolant was LEAVING the engine--or at least, that it's on the hot side of the system. I might be confused, but I'm pretty sure that's the side that heats up first, before the thermostat opens--the bypass...
