Amsoil signature series 5w20 with a bottle of ceratec added in with a fl820s filter is what I run.

My low mileage 10th anniversary coupe (4800 miles currently) has never had it’s engine replaced, and it has DB heads on it. My engine build date is 6/17/03 which matches perfectly to what joe goffin states in the castings article here… Castings So going off head castings alone means nothing.

Had hpp racing in garland texas install the m-6004-a464 timing kit onto my 4000 mile 03 cobra due to rattling on startup after sitting for a few days. I also had them do the ratchet mod on the tensioners to prevent further issues that could be caused by over ratcheting… Aluminator Gibtec Build =)

Thanks for the info. Dealer is suppose to do a diag first before doing anything, but yes I have had the lash adjusters and cam followers replaced on the passenger side already by another dealer. They even inspected the timing components on the passenger side, and said everything looks fine, but...

So your suggestion is to wait until the noise never goes away, or starts to rattle under acceleration?

Guess you guys just like to wait for things to totally break. I haven’t heard the 1-3 second rattle noise on cold start in two years of ownership, but now I have. To me it has already gotten worse because I have never heard it produce such a noise before.

Don’t need the chain to jump a tooth either. Piston to valve contact wouldn’t be fun.

Not going to risk the chain breaking. The car is 20 years old, and it’s obvious it’s been idled over the years to keep the motor running. I bet the engine itself has a ton of miles on it just from idling even though the odometer is only at 3200 now. Hopefully it will resolve my warm tick as well.

I’ve never heard it rattle before on a cold start after sitting for a few days in the last two years I have owned it. A google search on 1-3 second rattle on cold start will get you results of people stating timing components as the cause. Maybe I’m just being paranoid?
