I think I've pretty much decided to get an aluminator short block. That'll be good for 850-900 whp and that's a strong street car engine. I have a set of heads and that will make a shorter downtime.
I'll either sell my current long block or keep it for a spare and maybe build an all-out sleeved...

Yes it is worth it to get a tune for an auto.
I would say an SCTx4 would be best but some like the Ngauge better because it is better for datalogging.
Just make sure your tuner will work with Ngauge.
Don't use the "canned" pre-installed calibration that comes with the tuner device.

Have you moved the adjustable idler? Are you sure it's torqued properly and not slipping?
I've used the same belt with different sized pulleys with no problems.
