I assume there would be a warranty, however the alternator was bought by the previous owner the day before I picked up the car. and he doesn't have the reciept.

Current update, battery still has plenty of fluid within but was basically dead when i pulled it out of the car. It charged just fine. Going to get battery and alternator tested. Fully expect at least (probably) both are bad now, even though again, they are 1.5 mo old.
Ive been reading online that overcharging (ie from a possible bad voltage regulator) can cause heating of the battery and thus electrolytes to push out.

I don't know where you heard you need a tune with any catback exhaust, but you do not. Regarding exhaust, only long tube headers and removing your cats requires anything in a tune to be changed.
