Well, the engine appears to be fixed. I replaced the plugs today but the plugs looked good as apparently were the old coil over plug units. What I did find while installing the plugs was that a large rubber line was running lengthwise down the right valve cover and as I moved it aside I was...
OK - thanks. Let me see how the plugs go first. At this point I have most of my faith shifted over to the plugs being at fault for the miss. But I understand what you are saying that the DPFE is a maintenance item.
I found it with Google _ I'll check it out.
I have the metal type. Hoses look fine. The truck only has 17k miles on it.
My hands are about healed up from installing the COPs so I'll probably try to start on the plugs this weekend.
No joy in Arkansas with a change of fuel filter. I didn't even need to drive it as it was randomly missing at idle after starting it. So, I have a set of NKG TR6/IX plugs which I will put in in the next few days and see what happens. It has the plain (thick electrode) TR6 plugs in it and maybe...
I replaced the plugs about 2007 or 2008 when I put the 4lb pulley and tune on (would have to check my log to be exact). I've only put about 5,000 miles on it since then. About 4 years ago (around 2014) I developed a miss when I opened the throttle up and a replacement of the fuel filter fixed...
Took a while to get motivated but bought new Autolite coils from Rock Auto and finished installing them today (what a thankless job). Unfortunately the random miss is still there so looks like that $320 didn't do me much good.
Violated my principal of always do the cheap and easy stuff first...
Frustrating - truck ran fine today without a miss. Almost afraid to ask how I can be sure the RockAuto plugs are not fake? Is this strictly an Amazon thing?
Interesting. I had issues with a McLeod clutch I purchased off Amazon last year. McLeod at first refused to deal with it as they said they didn't authorize anyone to sell their products on Amazon. Finally they did verify it was their clutch but went out their door several years prior - to...
What do you think of these? Hard to find good information on part # for the Lightning but it appears DG-508 is correct. Seem to be Motorcraft from all of the reviews.
Found some on Amazon for a set of Motorcraft for $214. Verifying they are correct for a Lightning. I'm gathering the Lightning didn't use anything special over a standard 5.4 L.
$400 for Motorcraft COPs - ackk. Haven't checkeed out Denso yet but I will. I can't believe I'm asking this as I hate MSD, but anyone have any good reports on MSD or Accell COPs. For $200 if I get 5-10 years out of them I'll buy another set and break even.
Thanks - I did a Google search for Ford Lightning, engine miss, no code - and got probably hundreds of hits, most of them seeming to be related to coil packs going bad. Didn't realize the truck has such a primitive diagnostic system to where it can't even identify what cylinder a bad coil pack...
I toyed around with my 17.5 K miles 2003 Lightning in some of the used car value websites a few weeks ago and due to the relatively low miles I believe it was generally rolling out at around $23,000 for private party sell. Now what they actually sell for I have no idea.
But in comparison, a...
The pressure plate is responsible for pushing back against the hydraulic TO bearing which pushes fluid back to the clutch pedal master cylinder and in turn pushes the pedal back up. Sounds like a long chain but in practice it usually happens lightning quick since hydraulic fluid is...
Thanks for responding. Interesting a weak coil pack miss didn't set a code. I'm going to let this gas stabilizer work on it a few day and get a fuel filter and change that again. If that doesn't do something I will probably look for a set of coil packs. I'm sure there are a lot of better...
