That's what I'm afraid of. I've been reading that overheating in 7 and 8 can cause the valves to seat incorrectly.

I'm in the process of "burping" the cooling system right now. If there is an air pocket, it's a very small one. I just let it cool for 3 hours with crossover tube open and added maybe 2-3 oz. of coolant. Could an air pocket make it sound like a bad valve or lifter?

Not at all. Consistent tick, tick, tick and increases in speed with rpm's. Sounds like it's coming from the middle of the engine, maybe a little on the driver's side....and it has never done this until after idling without coolant circulating through the motor.

So I recently acquired a 97 svt in pretty decent shape, mechanically speaking. That being said, after my 16 year old drove it for about a month, it started puking oil into the coolant. So my brother-in-law (who is a non-practicing ASE certified mechanic) helped me pull the oil cooler and...

Hating myself for relying on an ASE certified mechanic help me fill up my cooling system rather than spend 2 minutes looking it up!!
