Oil Pan recommendations - 03 Cobra

I'm currently running a Canton 8 quart pan, but the threads came out with the plug this last change. Any recommendations for a replacement? Stick with Canton or try a different manufacturer such as Moroso?

The car already has a remote oil filter/cooler and tubular suspension. The canton rubs ever-so-slightly on the rear brace of the K-member and transfers vibration to the chassis. I'd like to avoid the rubbing issue if possible.

Thanks!

WOW! Is this the steel version?
I have a stock K member and use the steel Canton pan and have no clearance issues what so ever.
So far so good on my drain plug.

Since changing the pan involves dropping the K, as far as I know, I would prefer to tap it out and run the next size up plug.

I would think that clearancing the sheet metal of the pan should be possible or perhaps slotting the engine mounting holes on the K and adjusting the engine orientation slightly.

Pans are pretty expensive, I'd rather take a tap and a hammer to it before I replaced it with something that may still end up with the same problems.

I am however not familiar with the Moroso version, does it have the road race baffles?

I believe that it is the aluminum pan, but it should have steel threads. They just came right out with the plug.

A couple shops I know wouldn't even touch it, claiming too much of a liability if it fails.

Lucky for me there are more threads inside so a longer plug seals. However, that isn't a permanent fix and I don't want to have it pop off while I'm on track.

My canton also didn't have any clearance issues with the stock k. The maximum motorsports k-member kit is currently on it.

I am not familiar with Moroso but I've heard Canton has had issues with their intercooler tanks cracking. I haven't heard any failures with their oil pans though.

Thanks for the response!

No I have not heard of problems with oil pans either, if you have the aluminum pan I WOULD DEFINITELY FIX THAT! Those are serious big bucks, if you decide you don't want to mess with it, PM me, I might buy it.

Any shop that can't handle taping a drain plug out to the next size is probably a shop that's seriously busy or they are incompetent.

EDIT: BTW I also have a Canton coolant resv. that was built during the production run that experienced some cracking, I called and they asked me to send them the tank which had not cracked yet, I did and they reinforced it with additional plates and welding and sent it back. I have not had any issues with Canton or any of their fine products. All I paid was freight one way. They are a highly respected manufacturer that makes excellent race quality parts for many different segments of motorsports and have been so for many decades. I would fix that pan without a second thought.

I agree with Jimmy and would attempt to tap new threads before replacing the oil pan.

I had a steel Canton roadrace pan on my 99 Cobra that I tracked. Never had any issues and would not hesitate to get another Canton pan if needed.

Just an update - I got it heli-coiled and all is peachy. Now I just have to make some clearance between the pan and the MM tubular k member...

Put a Fumoto valve on the pan so you dont have to worry about the pan again... although the helicoil is probably stronger than the original threads in the pan.
