I'm in Illinois and was caught speeding 57 in a 45 in Colorado Springs. I'm guilty and will pay the fine. Does CO offer court supervision or online drivers courses to keep the ticket off my record? I haven't had a ticket in over 10 years, but the last time I did in IL, I was offered court supervision, where I plead guillty and pay the fine, but if I stay clean for 6 months the ticket goes away. Another instance, for an out of state ticket in UT, I did an online drivers course and it kept my record clean. Is it worth going to my court date and asking? Do they do this? My ticket says to not call or write the court for any info and the LEO wasn't much help either.

Usually you can get a deferred sentence if your record is decent. That's about the extent of my knowledge of my states law lol. I think you have to show unless you get an lawyer to go in your place??? Dunno.

most courts offer deffered adjudication, just call the court clerk and ask.

6 months is a long time for probation, but that varies by state (try to get 90 days or less).

However, I would opt for defensive driving, as you can turn that into your insurance company for a small discount on auto insurance.

I don't exactly know what "defer" means in this instance. I'm going to the court date but do I ask for this or explain what I'm looking for? Should I have my driver's class diploma in hand when I go?

deferred adjudication is where you cant get convicted of a ticket within a certain timeframe (usually 90 days). If you complete the timeframe, then the ticket is dismissed, and your out of pocket for court costs (usually the original amount of ticket) and the ticket gets dismissed.

If you want to do the defensive driving route, dont take it before your granted it (you should have like 60 days to take it after they give you the option). Now, in Texas (your state may vary slightly) you just get a certified copy of your driving record, take the class, pay court costs and your done. Send one copy to the court with your driving record, send another copy to your insurance to get the insurance discount.

Like i said, ths is for Texas, so different states my vary, but it should be close to the same process.

So I got a letter from the Colorado Springs prosecutor about my recent speeding ticket today. It says since I have a clean record, if I plead guilty now and pay the fine, my ticket will be reduced to 2 points from 4 to a vehicle equipment charge (tail light out, etc). Points don't mean anything to me since IL goes by occurences (3 in a year and you're suspended). Is this the best that I'll get or should I still try to go to court and ask for a deferal?

oh HELL yeah! ... beats the snot out of going to court and losing. points may not mean anything but tne non-moving violation can be huge when it comes to renewing your insurance coverage.
