Im subn to this thread, Im currently in the process of thinking of going into the Air Force or the Army and would love any CONSTRUCTIVE advice you guys have to offer (I only say that bc you Marine guys like to say just go Marines lol), but given my situation, attended University of Texas at Austin for 3 years and needed a change of pace and always wanted to join the military but have accumulated quite a bit of student loans, think the Army or Air Force matches my goals of serving the country along with more help financially as well. Any input feel free to comment or PM me Ill be talking with both recruiters tomorrow and see what happens :)

I would say go talk to a recruiter but you are doing that so you are already at step 1. PM with AF questions if you need anything.

Air Force - Life is mostly good, Equipment and training are a step ahead of the others. but promotions are slower. More jobs (IMHO) translate directly into the civilian world than the others. Deployments are shorter duration.

Army - Promotions are generally quicker, deployments are longer than the others, if you are careful with the job you pick it will go into the civilian world pretty easy but some of them are more difficult.

All I know is Army. I love it. But my father was in the Air force and some friends in the air force. They get treated better then other branches.

You can send me any PMs on army related questions. I will do my best to help you out.

Alan

I'm going to try to write a few simple rules for the forum tonight (more-or-less to frame the forum's purpose).

Does everyone like the name "The Chow Hall"? This forum will be a sub-forum inside RS.

Or the "mess" hall but Chow Hall works ... I know the Army (at least out here) gets all twitchy when you call it the mess hall.

How do these look?

The Chow Hall Guidelines

1. This forum if for the discussion of military related topics. It is not just a general discussion forum for military personnel. Topics of general discussion should still be posted in Roadside, pictures and videos should still be posted in their appropriate forum, etc.
2. SVTP respects our nation’s military personnel and we expect posts made in this forum to be respectful to those in service to our country.
3. Access to this forum is not limited to those serving in the military. It is open to all SVTP members interested in military related topics.
