OK here is what I know about my problem. It only happens after the truck has been running for a while, and didn't happen at all in the colder weather. When it happens, the truck tries to stall, and the fuel pressure drops to almost 0. Sometimes the fuel pressure comes back up, other times it just stalls. Most of the time it happens when accelerating, but it has happened just idling as well. After it stalls, or tries to stall once, it will keep on doing it unless I let it cool down. I replaced the fuel pump resistor with no luck, I jumpered the hi/lo relay and it fixed the problem, but then I replaced the relay with a new one and the problem came back. What could be the problem if jumpering the hi/lo relay fixes it (or hides it) but the actual relay isn't the problem? What could the jumper be hiding?

if your jumping the hi/lo line and its ok, then im guessing you have a power issue with the power getting TO that relay. test the wires under it, might be loose or a break in the wire somewhere.

sometimes when a fuel pump sock or filter gets a little clogged they get hot after running for a long time and start shutting down just as you describe. sometimes even with a clean filter and sock it can do this..

but then you say jumping the relay makes it work so that is kinda confusing.. however when a fuel pump is getting hot and quitting usually stopping it and starting it again with make it run for a while longer..

may be wrong but i would suspect the fuel pump, its the only part of the fuel system that will shut down when overheated, and they usually over heat because they are overworking either because the motor is just drawing to much electricity or because it is pumping through a dirty filter or sock..

its not a bad pump because it works fine with the jumper wire....ur grounding out somewhere or have a break in the wire....my truck had the same issue...it was some wires laid up against the exhaust manifold on the pass side....check around there.

What are the chances that the problem is anything in the tank?

jay, just listen to me, the guy above you just agreed with me.

if you are jumping a wire, its a power issue and nothing more.

you have a break in the wire, bad connection, or are grounding out.

try tracing the wire that you are jumping back to its source.

same thing happened to me with a PCM issue, i had a break in the wire. of course it was so far back and in that i couldn't see it.

come down by me today if you want, ill take a look
