Im going to be doing a alternator swap this weekend and going to the paint shop right after! Im just going with a stock replacement 110 amp

the question is how hard is it to make it happen?? are there any techniques behind this???

Please post if there is a easy way to do this

Just did it.

- Take the belt off.
- Disconnect the power wires/battery.
- There is a brace holding the alt to the block, take the brace loose (3 bolts).
- then take the large bolt loose holding the top of the alt.
- take the plastic sheet by the fender well off
- slide the alt toward the driver side wheel well and out

There is a lot of crap in the way and I tried many diff ways to get it out but when I finally slid it out toward the wheel well, that was it.

I anyone else has a better way (or agrees with me) .. let us know.

btw, I got a 160amp Start-N-Charge from Jamie on Mod Fords .. FTW!

these are the best directions in all the cobra world. its easy and wont give you too much grief http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/how-230/182632-alternator-removal-how-pics.html
i dont remove battery for me or the fender well, i make it as difficult as i can. if you dont remove fender well there is only one way to manuver the alt. out near the oil filter, changing oil and removing filter while doing alt. may be a benefit for removal and install of alt.

Exactly what I did, and I too ordered Jamie's 160 amp unit. It's a PITA to get out, but as strange as it seems it went back in really easily. The thread referenced a few posts above is what I used for reference and it worked well.

This alternator that you got from Jamie is this the guy from Washington state who worked on Buicks? If so how do you like it? Cause I was thinking of going to his alternator when mine craps out.

Been using Jamie's (Start N Charge and IS the buick guy from Washington) for a year and no issues but only 1k on it at most. Car only has 19k too but very happy with it thus far.

the only other thing I would do is remove the battery and battery tray. getting to that 15mm bolt on top is a pia with the battery and tray in the car. only takes an extra couple minutes to remove it all.

Jamie's (start-n-charge) alt was around 310 bucks shipped, and comes with an upgraded cable with 200a fuse. I've had it in for around 2 weeks now and it's doing great with about 50 miles on it. I'm hoping it lasts as it's a pita to change out!
