Hey I got my car aligned today at firestone and they said my half shaft seal has a little hole as grease is coming out. Of course firestone and ford want me to buy a whole new half shaft. Is there another way, such and buying a new boot and repacking grease? Any insight would be great thank you all!

Yeah, there's about a 99.9% chance that nothings wrong with the half shaft itself. Should be able to replace the boot to repair it with no problem. Only problem is your ability to find a replacement boot.......not sure if ford sells them individually or not. If not, I'd recommend throwing up a WTB thread in the Market Forum for one.

Nobody makes replacement boots that you can buy. But A-1 Driveshaft will repack and reboot the joint for you for $49.00.

Good Luck,

Is there a patch kit one could use? If you can patch a hole in a pressurized tire surely a CV boot should be no problem....?

I realize that. I'm sure the chemistry behind the materials in very different. But a tire operates in more extreme conditions and I was simply saying that I don't feel it would be very hard for any given manufacturer to create a patch and glue compound that could patch a cv boot. Especially when there are situations like the Cobra IRS where it seems very difficult to get just the boot.

There's been more than a few half shafts break at the track and many times, the boots on the affected shaft are undamaged. There's plenty of them lying around in garages across the country........Market Forum is your friend.
