Pro 5.0 Install Issues?

I just purchased a used Pro 5.0 from the market for my brother's 97 Cobra. It has a T-56 swap. Well, long story short, after he bolted the shifter to the tranny it will only shift straight up and down from centerline. This would be from 3rd to 4th gear. He says he can't get the shifter to go to either side to get it into 1st,2nd or 5th,6th. He says he has the stops all the way out and he still can't get it into gear. Do you think it's a shifter issue or is he doing something wrong with the install? I've been helping him troubleshoot over the phone since he lives in CA. Could there possibly be something missing from the shifter that would make it not work like it should? Any help is appreciated.

Yeah that's correct. When I purchased my pro 5.0 it was very, very, sticking and notchy feeling but that got better over time. So if he sticks it in nuetral he can't move the shifter around side to side even?

I'm putting on my thinking cap:idea:

In neutral, it will go north:south, but he can't move it from side to side. It seemed odd to me also when he told me that. It just doesn't make sense. I'm trying to keep it simple and hope that it's an installation error or maybe even something wrong with the shifter. He bought the car in Dec 07 when he got back from Iraq from a member here. Now I'm worried that maybe there's a possiblity that its not a T-56. It has to be though.

Yeah that doesn't make sense, the t-56 shifter base is square shaped and the t-45 bases are rectangular. Honestly the only thing I can really think of is if he installed it upside down by mistake.

This is going to sound a little whack but did he put the knob back on the handle and then try to move it over? Makes it a bit easier trying to move it over and into a gear. Maybe he should pull the shifter off again and make sure the shifter ball socket is in the neutral position.

Thanks Bro for the help!! I'll have him try this and see if it works.
