First single....yay or nay?

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=103278

This is the second song released from their upcoming album DM.

It's alright. I think Lars drumming is really hurting this song. His snare is used a bit to much and it's too much upfront in the mix. Also past the 5 minute mark when it speeds up his 1/2 snare bass hit is slowing down the tempo of this song in my opinion. He needed to be a bit more upbeat to make the second part of this song seem more agressive.

I do love the guitar harmonies....sound very Iron Maidenish to me....

Overall a track I wouldn't have used to represent this album.

The drums kill it, and so does his singing. Bass and Guitar are great as they ever have been.

I don't want their new stuff to be like their old stuff. If they released the black album this year, I can guarantee that it would be nowhere as big as it was when it was originally released. Music needs to be emotionally relatable to the times, and their old stuff would not fit in now. Thats why we have classics, so we can remember that particular part in history and what was going on in the world and in music.

Metallica needs to modernize itself, and I think they are doing a very good job at doing that with this album.

I'm a little surprised to see it released as the first single... typically singles have catchy lyrics, which this doesn't really have. The guitar work on this song is definitely up front, so much so that I almost don't even notice the vocals when I listen to it.

Still... I like it. It's like Low Man's Lyric crossed with Fade to Black, somehow. Everything I've heard of Death Magnetic seems about halfway between the black album and Load.

I agree to an extent. I'm just not sure what is missing here though.

Usually Metallica has a "punch" to it.

I agree, but I think there will be some nice surprises inside the album. Either way, this album will be 109,034,543,706,764,375,937,509,720,520,967,590,275,902,093,649,062,965,982,690,826,502,602,602,698,474,647,744,987,979,437,963,963,956,893,473,890,743,890,463,894,608,350,878,030,365,083,740,837,409,347,385,603,856,034,730,950,935,037,403,650,357 times better than St. Anger.

I still like some of the clips they are putting up on the main Metallica website....little snippets from the different songs.
