I think I've started resigning myself to the fact that, if I do get another Terminator, it will still be a while from now before I get it.

Looking at the big picture over the next few years, I am starting to see that there's really not a place for it. We have BIG family and financial goals we sincerely want to meet. We want to start a family, we want to purchase a new home, we want to travel, etc.

I'm working on getting myself a better-paying job which would make another Terminator more feasible, but even if I had the extra cash in-hand, I'm not sure I'd feel real comfortable spending it on the Cobra, knowing what my wife and I want down the line. I feel like it would be short-sighted and selfish of me to spend money on something like the Terminator.

Am I going nuts?

At least once a week, wifey tells me to sell my car. I will not have any of it. I only have 8 more months of payments, and this is a car I want to keep forever. I have a 9 month old, and he never drives in the Slowbra. Once the car is paid off, i want to buy a beater to drive everyday, something the family can fit in.....my son can drive in my wifes Cherokee until then. I have not gone down the road of expensive stereos, big screen TV's, hell I never buy anything for myself, it all goes to the family, except the car......my advice to you is, ditch the Beemer, get a Cobra.

You only live once.

well, everyones outlook on life changes. you hobby's obviously changed after getting married and setting other goals. you have to do what makes you happy. whether that is getting another cobra, not getting one, etc. none of us can tell you what is best for you and I know you aren't asking that. if you are content with your lifestyle and finding other things that make you happy, there is nothing wrong with it.

You will always be able to find a Terminator for sale. For now just invest in the future and buy the M4 you want. :dw: It's a lot cheaper than another Cobra and it will hold its value. You are certainly smart enough to make the right choices. Do what you should and don't look back. Family should always come first.

I agree. I'm not even settling down yet and I'm probably going to ditch my car so I have money to do some growing up. I'm spending way too much on mods and should be saving up to get outta my parents house. No harm in wanting the bigger things in life like a house and vacations that you can enjoy with your family, before you start spending more on toys. I've heard Dwight give the same speech a bunch of times and I'm finally starting to agree with him lol. I'll never get out of the car hobby and maybe I can even take it up as a job one day, but priorities have to be set at some point and some things are just a bit more important than others.

Not nuts at all man !!

I've had a lot of fun in my Cobra's. But, now it's time for other things. Hopefully in 5 years we're out of here and purchasing the farm in January was the first step to leaving for us.

You'll know when it's time for another car. Clearly, it's not now, or you would not second guess yourself. It'll happen when your family feels it's right.

I had a Mustang when I got married 20 years ago. Sold it to start a family. Made a promise to myself that 10 years from then I'd get another. It wound up being 11 years.

Good luck,

J.R.

Thanks for the kind words, Tim

I suppose. Being responsible SUCKS!! :nonono:

The BMW was a relatively cheap buy (thanks to my uncle) and has been a dream, maintenance wise. No real extra expenditure there. The wife literally NEEDED a car ('96 Lexus w/ 210k on it was on its last legs). I just went the extra mile, effort wise, to ensure that we got something she would enjoy.

I think at this point I should make something PERFECTLY clear: my wife is not the deciding factor here. She wants me to get another Cobra if it's something that I want. The wife unit is applying no pressure in this matter. I guess I'm really at war with myself and my long-term vs short-term goals.

I guess that's just it. I might be changing my list of priorities based on what I see Kelly and I's life turning into over the next 2-3 years.

Still a MACA member though!!

Ha, the M4 is on hold big time. Almost as much as the Cobra. I think the concept of 'family first' is just really starting to take hold in my life priorities. I know what Kelly and I both want over the next 2-3 years and purchasing a Cobra at this juncture would not be conducive to those goals.

It just sucks sitting on the sidelines.

Yea, I hear ya Dale. But, as it sounds like you're finding out, it's not always instantly gratifying to do the 'important' things all the time.

Not nuts at all man !!

Yea, I guess I'm just starting to think more about what I want my life to be like in the next 2-3 years, rather than what I can do to make myself happy right this minute. I suppose I just need to keep doing what makes me feel right, which unfortunately means, at this time, no Terminator for now.

Sound like it to me LOL. Things like this are not easy to decide. My personal feeling is that you would have one by now if you really wanted it. You will always be faced with risky decisions and risk is a hard thing to manage. I am going through it with selling my house. On one side I am very comfortable with my payments and have 0 financial strain right now. On the flipside I want to get the hell out of Laurel and into a bigger house and bring on extra financial responsibility.

That said I certainly understand your delimma. You will always find reasons why you cant and it is easy to justify not spending money by keeping future goals in mind. You could take the risk and see if you can manage it for a bit. Worse case scenerio - You take the risk and it does not work out. At least you can walk out of it and only be out a couple grand when you sell it. Damed if you do Damed if you dont.

I say go for it. The happiness of being back in the game will help you interview better so you can nail down the job you want!

Nuts? Well, maybe just a little! :poke:

But no, not because you're accepting that a Terminator doesn't fit into your life right now. It would be nuts to own a car that keeps you from doing the things in life that are important to you, don't you think?

Hey, if I didn't have the extra money to throw at an expensive hobby such as this, I wouldn't have one either!!

I think at this point it's just a matter of priorities. I want some things for Kelly and I in the future and I feel like I need to start accounting for them now. It would make me more comfortable achieving those things comfortably, then getting into another Terminator.

no fear sean ,, im in the same boat as you ,, im still a memeber at heart right now ,, and for i see for a while to come,, i still check the boards once a week.... hope all is well

Yea, all is good Bruce. Just trying to do the right thing by Kelly and I. How's that house going? And you're a newlywed too, right?

Get your house first and family in order before a car. End of statement.

Yea, starting to see that as the number 1 goal.

Priorities!

Enough said!

Thanks, Jason. Still need to see if I can enlist your help to make my DD look like a car again though. I figure if we both go at it with our PCs, we can turn it around in a day.

They're just toys. If you would feel guilty having one sit in the garage all week while you work to pay for it, you won't enjoy it. Timing isn't right. That's fine. You have plenty of time for figuring out and growing up. I grew up with boats. Now we are selling ours because the family is too busy to enjoy it. No sense sitting on it. We'll get another one. Maybe. If we feel like it. No biggie.

Take that approach and you already know the answer. And, uh, you need to attend at least one GTG a year there Buddy. Haven't see you since last Christmas.
