My car came with a bassani catback and x on it. I've heard people talk about removing the baffles to make it louder. Are the baffles the chicken wire looking things inside the exhaust tip? it also looks like a allen headed bolt is running up through the bottom and holding it in place. So if i remove this bolt, the baffle will pull out? How much louder is it w/ them out?

That's right, take out the allen screw and the baffle will come out. It can be kind of tricky to get a grip on it though. I would say it's maybe 15% louder. I keep mine in though. The baffles really keep the exhaust from "blatting" under heavy throttle.

yea, I bought my car used, and it did not have the baffles, and I bought some to put in...

It sounds like a popcorn machine without them... too many pop pop pop noises... its much better with it in.

Speaking of the baffles I have removed them re-installed them just to find out which sounds better, the fiberglass wrap stuff kept coming off and it looked like a birds nest in the tip one day so I peeled it off. I keep them in because It does reduce that pop sound, jmo.

I've heard cars with them in and out.

I really prefer them in. Sounds sooo much smoother/better and more mellow.

Thats one of the great things about them though; you can quickly take them in and out based on your mood.

I pulled my baffles out as soon as the catback arrived. I have very little popping and with the offroad X the exhaust is so loud and aggressive! I tried to put the baffles in, but the one on the drivers side is a really tight fit so I lost interest and kept them out. I vote out just because I like being really obnoxious!

Break out the Dremel and a nice flat blade screwdriver...cut according slot into head of bolt and out it will come.

I immediately took the baffles out of mine when I first installed the catback. I now have them in all the time now. It definitely makes the sound a lot smoother.

I took the fiberglass wrap out first week after it started sticking out the ends. Took the baffles out permanently after about 6 months. decided I liked the sound better.

FWIW I did back to back dyno with and with out the baffles and picked up 6 HP with them out

Here's a tip for getting them out. Remove the screw from the bottom and thread it in from the top just into the baffle, not the tip. Then take a length of nylon rope and hook it around the screw and pull. I also took note of the scuff marks on the baffles and ground down the high spots just a hair.
