I got this off of one of my Mustang threads and its very well written, Just thought I'd share with ya. its long, but it almost brought a tear to my eye.
For those of you who don’t understand the lure that only a Mustang can possess, read on….and for those who do understand, you’ll already know this.
Some people will never be able to understand Mustang enthusiasts, they don’t comprehend why we can spend an entire afternoon washing our ride, working on the engine, or simply driving around with no destination in mind for hours on end. We park at the far end of the parking lot, and choose to walk a few extra feet in order to avoid the inconsiderate Motorists who could care less if they ding your door when they exit their vehicle.
We’ll never use a drive through car wash, or let some underpaid Teenager change the Oil at the corner Lube Shop. Our cars range from mild to wild, some serving as nothing more than daily drivers, and others are full blown race cars that accelerate harder than a fighter jet being launched from an Aircraft Carrier.
"No other car I’ve ever owned captured so much attention. The elderly would wave and the children would point. People would approach me and ask what kind of car I was driving. When I told them, they would respond “they don’t make them like that anymore”. See, these people knew nothing about cars, yet they knew a nice ride then they saw one. Few people know what it’s like to feel the extra power rudely shove you into the seat as you drive it for the first time after adding a new set of high flow Cylinder Heads. Or mashing the throttle in fourth gear to blow by a Honda Civic who has to downshift twice because the Engineers at Honda didn’t know what the tern “torque” meant. After 12 years of driving I still look forward to every time I get behind the wheel and turn the key, listening for my V8 to come to life, sending chills up my spine as the dual exhaust rumbles underneath. There’s a code of respect between Mustang owners, one that has been developing for nearly 40 years. Other Mustang owners would give me the thumbs up, or a simple wave if you met in traffic as a sign of approval and respect.
The rumble from my Flowmaster Exhaust would often set off car alarms driving through a parking lot. My chest would pound from the sound. I couldn’t wait until payday, going without groceries at times so that I could have the money for a new 3.73 rear end instead. Money well spent. Very few people in life find their passion, something that they could do for an eternity if given the opportunity. Something that they think about during all of their waking hours, and dream about in their sleep. These people come home from an eight hour shift, only to spend the entire night in the garage swapping in some new low compression Pistons to match the Supercharger installed last weekend, only to go to work again the next morning on two hours of sleep. Driving one of these cars will evoke feelings that nothing else on this planet can. You can’t explain what it’s like to accelerate so hard that the front wheels nearly lift of the pavement. Or to take corners at speeds that defy the laws of Physics. How about braking so hard your passenger almost loses his lunch. And how about that first day of spring when you find that first dry patch of pavement to test your new Summer Tires on. Hitting redline in the first three gears until you realize that car you passed a block ago just might have been a Cop.
When you have a 400 horsepower beast sitting in the garage, the terms “spacious” and “fuel efficient” don’t apply. These cars were built for one thing, and one thing only. If you still don’t know what that is, try racing one sometime. Just don’t cry when you doors get blown off.
Sometimes the best things in life can’t be explained.
From time to time we ponder the meaning of life….to enthusiasts the meaning of life IS the Mustang."
