We recently had one of the town council members crash their car and get charged with a DUI. I wrote the Mayor and asked what kind of disciplinary action is going to be held against this individual, as in kicking him off the council.
This is the response I received from him.

What do you all think, am I over reacting? I know in my profession and many others if you get a DUI you don’t have a job any more.
Why should the guy be punished twice? One bad decision shouldn't necessarily destroy your career. It is a misdemeanor, unless you've had like 3 or 4 DUIs, then it is a class 4 felony.

I don't know if this is his first or 4th DUI, the fact is he is the one who decided to drive while intoxicated and I know if this was myself I would have lost my job because of it. They are representatives of the Town and should be held to a higher standard.

All of them have double standard attitudes Republican or Democrat

That’s true, I couldn’t care what affiliation the guy is with. I am sick and tired of the rules for thee not for me shit.
I couldn't agree with you more man. It's also crazy how politicians can just sign and give themselves a raise every year of like %25 and nobody cares about it...

The local paper! Unless they are part of the DNC cabal, local papers love this juicy news.

I'd say they will not touch it. In fact, they may even come after Crimson2V.

Dale I bet that the "media group" that owns his local newspaper, gives zero ****s about him.

The "media group" that owns our local paper, only reports local sports, maybe 1 event, and arts. They do not touch politics. That started ~2021.
All government politics is done behind the scenes, and periodically leaked to the public when they want. That's how the new American socialism works.

That is why I put the caveat about the DNC cabal in there. Man, that would be a crazy turn of events.

Man tries to clean up Town Council only to be accused of pedophilia.

Ya mean like a variation of Marvin Heemeyer?

These tyrannical mother****ers have already proven that they will do anything they need to, to destroy our Republic.

A high-up city official here has wrecked out drunk and been convicted of numerous dui's over the last 10yrs. Just got promoted recently. No bs.

Americans are being held hostage by shitheads at every level. Sadly, I think there's only one way out of it.

Just like my current job, people fail upwards. The guys that are not good as a tech, they give them jobs as supervisors. I wouldn’t be surprised if this guy ran for Mayor next and wins.

Vote him out then.

Yeah, I could excuse a single DUI, but if he’s a repeat offender, he’s got issues interfering with his duties

One single DUI is not grounds for dismissal for being on a town council. It's a misdemeanor.

Stepping down might be a good gesture, but it's not required.

This could also be used against him if he tries to run again.

I would be hesitant to trust someone with that kind of power (and public funds) to not make other bad judgement decisions. A DUI is a serious case of bad judgment and could indicate a beginning or continuing pattern of bad decision making - whether in personal or work life.

Let's be honest - if he was busted with a DUI, it's likely not the first time he's been under the influence while driving. It's just the first time he was caught.

There are plenty of public/gov positions that will send you packing after a DUI. I have zero problem with someone losing their job over a DUI arrest.
