Well. Said screw it and am taking and building a fresh short block for this thing. Nothing wild, but a little more than what they came with from the factory.

Block will be an aluminum 3v (aluminator) block .020 over. Stock cobra crank/rods. Many 18cc dish pistons. (Will see if I can get valve reliefs.) Will be using stock 3v windage tray.

I want to be around 9.0:1, but don't want to play with gasket thickness, and other stuff with starting with whatever CC equates to a 9.5:1 that Manley offers. So will probably take .015" off the heads to shoot for 8.8ish. Engine builder agrees, and is in agreement with my thoughts, even shot me some advice on things he has seen with other builds.

I sat and weighed my options back and forth for awhile. Trying to make a damn decision. Looking at the blocks I have laying around doing nothing kind of did me in. Starting fresh will benefit me more in the long run than anything. Block, two of my cranks, and my rods are going up the weekend of January 14 2023.

Hoping to be high 500s low 600s with stock cams and this 2.2 on pump gas.

On the 2.2... Spoke with the guys at Jon Bond performance and have confirmed it can be fixed. I was quoted about 1200 to send it to them, have the rotors recoated, and the gears replaced and new bearings put in it. It could go up from there, but expecting 1200 min. Or, I can do it myself for about half that with no rotor coating or warranty... Guess I'm sending a 2.2 off.

Removing material from the heads raises compression. Are you going to keep it on pump gas?

When the time comes for my engine build I'll be aiming for 9-9.5. It'll be more snappy off boost.

Yes. I'm shooting 9.0:1 C/R. Figured starting with an 18cc dish then cutting the heads a little to kill chamber volume is my best bet.

Picked up a dual sensor wideband for the car. If I'm going to rebuild this thing from the ground up, I might as well have stuff to keep eyes on the vitals.

I've always wondered how people run with just single sensor widebands on cars with multiple banks. It's hard to keep track of issues as they arrive.

One thing that comes to mind is people running "drop in" wet nitrous kits on stock rails. They end up pulling fuel from the Schrader valve on the passenger bank, but having a wideband on the driver bank. You're pulling fuel and can throw the passenger side lean, and not know it. Before long, chunks of molten aluminum are shooting out your exhaust, or chunks throughout the whole engine.

Dropped off all my stuff to have a long block less timing components for a long block at my engine builder today.

Speaking with the builder and showing the parts I brought him, everything seems like it should be an easy process. Hoping for a .010 over short block at around 9.0:1 with valve reliefs.

3v windage tray, block, and 9 thread DC heads. Faux aluminator. :ROFLMAO:

Went and cleaned on the headers i have for the turd today. Cut the cheap cutouts off, trued up the exhaust flanges to the best of my ability. Prepping them for cerakote. Need to set up a mock up engine to put the thing in the bay so I can put V bands on this thing.

For sure! I’ve always thought the same, I used to scan the copart website all the time for 03-04s. Would usually go out of what I could pay, just sad to see them go.
same, when I started seeing completely miffed cars going for nearly 15k, I thought id never see one in my driveway. This car is a dream come true. will continue to be until im dead.

I’m right there with ya man! Glad you got your hands on one, seems like it’s shaping up to be an awesome build! I’ve got a soft spot for zinc cars haha

Not much to add honestly. Between picking up parts here and there, and waiting for the engine builder. Not much has changed. Will probably push the car out sometime this spring and tear it back down to the condition I got it in, and start cleaning it deeply in preparation for assembly when the engine gets back.

I've decided I'm going to break it in on the eaton, find a stock pulley and MAF sensor. Didn't realize the intake that came with it was a BA2800. Tuner buddy says it's doable, but too much MAF for the initial setup. I've also picked up some software to tune it and my other cars as well. I've noted it's getting harder and harder to find someone willing to tune this thing, and trailering it 4 hours one way for a dyno tune just doesn't make sense to me. Especially if i missed something and the tune seasion is a bust. So, I've been researching and bought some books on the subject. (Thanks Lasota.) Fingers crossed I don't blow this or the other two on the property up.
