I legit still wouod love to be a cop.

Local Pd won’t hire anybody who has EVER done a drug stronger than weed. So because I did coke years and years ago .. they won’t hire me, but I know of 2 cops that have had a DWI/DUI but can be hired

Makes sense

I attended Platteville for computer science in ‘82. Melcher Hall room 426 (hemi yo)

Good to know there is a fellow Pioneer here. I first got to Platteville in 2002, Melcher was the all men's hall at the time.

Then again, given how few women there were in 2002, I can only imagine it was in the single digits in the 80s.

You must have been pretty early in the CS program there.

I visited a few months ago to represent my company at the engineering career fair. They now have a very impressive engineering hall.

The opinions on this are interesting and very one-sided.

*Devils Advocate*

Harping on the "victim" being a pregnant female and suggesting the intentional "flipping" of the car is ignoring and detracting from the facts at hand.

I doubt that he knew who, what, or how many people were in the vehicle as it passed him at night. I also doubt that he intended or hoped to roll the vehicle over.

The PIT maneuver was performed due to the vehicle failing to yield to emergency lights. The "victim" admitted to failing to stop because she thought it was unsafe to do so.

The officer, who knows or should know his AOR, was comfortable enough to initiate a vehicle stop where he was. The shoulder appears wide enough for the vehicles, traffic seemed to be very light, and Arkansas has a "Move-Over" law.

How many FTY/vehicle chases have we all seen where the vehicle is driving with its flashers on and traveling at a reduced speed? Many.

Was the PIT performed hastily? I think so.

Was the "victim" failing to yield? Yes.

Did the "victim" contribute to the series of events by choosing to stop when she wanted to as opposed to when she was directed? I think so.

If the officer was within policy at the time of the PIT maneuver, Qualified Immunity will likely stand. A judge will review all submitted facts and make a determination.

Qualified Immunity is not a given. It is always reviewed and ruled upon.

Personally, I would have allowed more time for things to develop. Call me lazy, but I'm never in a hurry to create situations that cause me to do more paperwork. I also serve myself by thinking, is what I am doing/about to do lawful and justifiable?

Side note:

Several years ago, I was driving through the DFW area on the I-30 during lunch rush hour. A DPS officer initiated a stop on me in the #2 lane and directed me to stop on the left shoulder. I was surprised, as I've never had this done before. Typically, you yield to the right shoulder.

Since the left shoulder is what he wanted, that's what he got. Did I like it? No. Why would I ignore his order and do what I want to do? Why would I choose to risk escalating the situation?

Posts like this make ANYthing you have said in the past that MIGHT make sense get tossed right out the window.

Pull your head out of your self-righteous ass.

This was a mistake and the fool who is responsible should be held to the highest account.

Actually, in the early 80's Platteville was pretty target rich. Yes, I did programming in Basic on punch cards.

Victim was white so who gives a shit? She was most likely on her way to do a drive by on a rival gang anyway. Glad the cop stopped this maniac and the streets are much safer in Arkansas because of his bravery.
Edit : read she settled for $150K, imagine if she only had a little more melatonin in her skin! Could have been $1.5 mill.

At the 9:30 mark the cop says "...and no, we don't anticipate vehicles rolling over...but it does happen."

That doesn't work in a situation like this. Not even close.

The crazy thing is there is nothing else to the story "before" the video or any of that crap.

The story you see on tape is what happened, yet people still defend that moron on a power trip.

So we don’t chase non-violent maniacs speeding through certain areas, but we do this…. Lmao at anyone that defends this assuming the story is true.

ARKANSAS STATE POLICE
WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU ARE STOPPED BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER
The steps outlined below provide drivers with basic information of what to do whens stopped by a law enforcement officer or when passing a law enforcement officers stopped alongside a roadway to ensure the officer’s safety, the safety of the driver and any passengers.
1. Pull over to the right side of the road – activate your turn signal or emergency
flashers to indicate to the officer that you are seeking a safe place to stop.

2. If you are unsure if you are being stopped by an actual police officer, activate your turn signal or emergency flashers and pull to the nearest well-lit location, or dial 9-1-1 and request confirmation that an actual police officer is attempting to stop
you.

3. Pull to the nearest/safest spot out of the traffic lane (Do not stop on bridges or overpasses).

This is from last year and there's a good bit of info about it. Here's an excellent break down of everything and how the law applies.

This case led to an entire policy change in Arkansas related to PIT maneuvers. Amazingly but not at all surprising is that the trooper still has a job.

I do find this comical. hundreds upon hundreds of videos on youtube where dozens of cops chase a car going 100mph through heavy traffic for 25 minutes at a time and they don't do anything, or call the chase off completely. Hell, in California it happens daily.

Then you have a woman with her blinkers on going super slow, and they flip her car. lol

I don't know about anyone of you but I for sure feel safer knowing officers like Deputy **** face are on the job. Could you imagine the damage the perp could've done if she was allowed to continue her reckless behavior.

I lost all respect for all forms of law enforcement and government. On a daily basis the counts of bad behavior behind a badge or an office just seem to grow exponentially. YMMV

Lets not forget we are supposed to give the benefit of the doubt to the police, right? Perhaps I am indifferent but I'm definitely a realist.
#1 that cop is a ****ing retard.
#2 wish her husband showed up a beat him within an inch of his life.
#3 she should have gotten way more of a payout then 150k.

I'd also like to see his mother, wife, daughter, etc..., have the pleasure of the same experience as the woman in the video.
