oil cooling for 01 Cobra?

I've been having a blast with my '01 Cobra at the track but I am getting a little concerned about oil temps. First question is: should I be? Or is the stock setup ok for stock(ish) power?

And then if I should be, what can I do about it? I thought dropping to a lower thermostat like the Reische 170 might also help with oil temps, given the heat exchanger, but I'm guessing that would be marginal. The only thing I've seen online is the special order kit on roadrace1.com for $900 but I've seen no evidence of anyone actually using it.

What kind of figures are you seeing? Is there a significant delta from the coolant temp? I'd start with the T-stat.

Well I guess that's part of the problem, too. I don't know the oil temp. From my research the only good way is to put a bung in the oil pan and I haven't gotten to that point yet. What I do know is my coolant temps were hitting 109C yesterday on track, so I can only imagine the oil was getting quite hot. I also fear a 170F thermostat alone won't do it as the current coolnig system is getting overwhelmed, so I'll also need an upgraded radiator. I'm thinking the Mishimoto 2-row, as the Fluidyne 3-row is probably overkill for a bolt-ons '01 Cobra.

Do the T-stat, monitor temps and go from there. You are getting ahead of yourself. If oil temps are that much of a concern, you should have a sensor.

Thanks for your response. non-rhetorical question: if I'm hitting 109C is having a tsat that opens sooner actually going to do anything? I'd figure either the stock or the 170 Reische would be fully open before that.

And I agree a sensor would be optimal, but I was hoping there's enough folks who have tracked these cars over the years to have a good knowledge of whether the stock cooling is at all sufficient and if not, what mods get one to that point.

My Cobra water temps were in that temp range (225*F) and is now 183* F.

Nice! Sounds like it's definitely worth a shot doing just the t-stat to start. are you running the Reische 170 or something else?

And are those temps regular street driving or hard driving?

If you get an oil temp sensor and gauge go with the stewart thick film sensor. It is a marine grade sensor.
