These manufacturers need to put fast charging stations at Buc-ee's. If I can get a decent percent of battery life in 20-30 minutes it would be perfect. It takes me that long to get my kids out of there.
Tesla has a handful of their charging stations being installed at the Bus-ee's in New Braunfels at the moment.

Ask all of the Tesla owners. Spending $70k on a commuter car is bonkers to me.

It fits MY goals and budget but I’m going to reserve judgement until I have the truck and real world data.

I will tell you this, as of right now, the numbers don’t bode well for the truck when it comes to “being green” and “environmentally friendly” compared to my focus.

I need to see range estimates for towing something even as small as a boat or sxs. I can't see this being practical if you're making a day trip towing to the lake or offroad park unless it's in a 50 mile radius.

Fords saying late Summer I should have mine and I plan on doing in-depth analysis and videos to break down the trucks abilities/limitations.

I can stare at the mountains from my bedroom window so getting some real hard evidence shouldn’t be a problem.

Don't get me wrong I think it's a cool truck and if I made more money I'd try to get one, but if I was trying to save money on gas a small Honda or Focus would make more sense.

Again, I just wish I could buy a Lightning Pro. It really is just right for most people IMHO and it would be good with the little one becoming a toddler before I know it. I heard Ford is going to allow the Pro to be ordered with the extended range battery pack (thus getting 580hp and 775tq). Probably be a $10K or more option, but as cheap as these can be optioned, I would be okay with that. I went onto the current build and price and optioned a Pro exactly the way I wanted (minus the extended battery pack which is not currently listed) and it came out to $42K. Not bad for a full size AWD truck that is well optioned (the vinyl seats and rubber flooring aside, which honestly isn't really that bad from what I can tell) with that much power.

As of right now, with no real world data, I would agree with this assessment.

For most electrics, the fuel savings do not offset the extra cost for a few years down the road compared to a similarly equipped ICE vehicle, but for the Lightning I would say it will not be so, or will be very close.

I got some numbers crunched right now.

Not to get too heavy into it, but I could buy a $40,000 2018-2019 F150, keep my focus, and at gas being
$4/Gal I’d never make up the difference for the cost in purchasing the XLT extended range Lightning.

The numbers just don’t add up.

For me, it’s also about not having to have 17 ****ing vehicles

I am VERY curious how the towing situation is gonna be.

Another thing to consider is that for most people, electricity is not free. At the event in TX I talked to guy who owns several EVs and according to him it costs between $13-20 for a full charge.

At $4/Gal it’s roughly half the cost to run the Lightning as it is my focus. But the focus only costs me about $100/month to fuel.

$50/month savings isn’t that impressive considering the cost of the Lightning.

I really want to reserve these discussions for when we got hard numbers but as of right now, the math doesn’t work. And math is math. It doesn’t change and it doesn’t care about politics or feelings.

I wonder about insurance on an EV as well, is it more or less than an ICE vehicle. Would having a charger installed in your garage effect your home owner's insurance?

I really don’t know. Great questions! I’d be down to coordinate so we can get this information out to everyone.

It is closer than some other EVs if you get the Pro with its lower entry cost. But yes, EVs have a long way to go to break even with ICE on cost of ownership. For my current situation, I would actually come out okay, especially with the standard range model, but I like power, so...

I love my Ranger and Ford is talking another EV truck. If it is Ranger based, which would be easier to convert than a Maverick due to it being body on frame, then I might just wait. Lightning orders are closed and you know that dealers will only have the most expensive models on hand. It would just would have been nice to take advantage of the high trade-in value of my Ranger right now and even get the $7500 incentive. I figured everything and my payment would be lower than my Ranger right now even if I got the lowest trade-in price for the Ranger and I could have gotten the Pro I wanted. I did crunch the numbers, and it would have worked out nice for me, but I am probably and outlier.

Hopefully the pro becomes more available. They seem to get sucked up really fast. I’m not even sure if they’re offering the extended version for the pro to non commercial customers.

Probably not, but even the standard would be stout performance wise, it is just that the extra range would be nice for trips, and the power for embarrassing stop light warriors. We use the CX-5 for those, but with the F-150's room, it would have been nice as an option. I could do with standard range, but again, if offered, I would opt for extended. More powaaaaa!

The Pro is VERY well equipped. Yes, it has vinyl seats, but they look nice with stitching and all. The rubber floor should be in all trucks IMHO. The wheels are also the best of the bunch. No stupid aero crap. I would probably go aftermarket eventually, but at least stock they look good,

My personal favorite is the XLT, but it's tough to see $30,000 more truck in it (with the extended range battery) than the Pro. That's why the next truck we'll probably get in the family will be an F-150 Rattler followed a bit later by a Godzilla F-350.

You can almost buy two base Pros. Crazy. Yea, the Pro is an extremely enticing value.

The Rattler is awesome. That thing will sell like hotcakes.
