I've had water in intake from cross over tubes,,

Didn't effect the car for running..but did blow white smoke and assume oil had some.

I've reused all my bolts when pulling blower and lower intake

When I pull Intercooler
I use nail polish for lock tight, still it's a good twist to break loose

Beware what lock tight strength,,

Red I think is the strongest.
Use that on a new nut and bolt,
Bet you need a vise and heat to break it loose. Jmo from doing this test .

Intercooler bolts are tiny and known to snap. I'm down to 8.

Tiny bead of silicone between cooler and blower..

If you did pull lower intake ..

Mis print on tourqe here.
89 inch pounds.
Or say pinky tight with 1/4 in drive tools.
Look at bolt, it's also tiny and long.

Replace o rings on cross over tubes

Manual does say to use new hardware ,,

The crossover tube in the valley? I didnt remove that. I may use either orange or green loctite on the intercooler bolts or maybe just a dab of RTV. I didnt see any loctite on these little bolts i removed.

I used ultra grey RTV on mine and my buddies cars.

Those bolts can be reused. I used blue loctite on mine.
I was also told not to reuse those bolts and bought a new set on ebay that was grade 10.9. I see it costs $14.75 shipped now but personally would grab a better set to be confident.

I whole heartedly agree to use some type of loctite. I just saw Andrew from mustang lifestyle lose a motor due to it eating an intercooler bolt.

Maybe it's the Ford bolts. The bolts I've reused came with my Whipple. But as mentioned earlier they're not TTY. So unless they've been damaged they should be fine.

YMMV

I believe both Whipple and VMP send stronger bolts with their kits. I know forsure VMP does.

I saved my OEM bolts to hopefully do a torque test and see where they break vs the stronger ones.

I had a loctite rep come into my work for a demo. The color is based on size of the bolts. Purple 222 is the weakest. Meant for small bolts up to M6. Then blue 242 or 243 is for M6 bolts up to M19. 243 works on oily bolts (black oxide), and Red 272 is for M10 to M38 bolts.

All based on breakaway torque to remove them. Small bolts will break before the loctite will give. That is why it is important to use the correct one.

I’m using Grade 12.9 bolts with red. Many ppl use stainless socket head bolts- stainless is very weak metal. I would use the purple on those kind of bolts.

I rock the red on mine for mental sanity too and don't plan on removing them for a while. I didn't know about the technical differences mentioned above rather than. "Blue is good, red will make it stay" was my mentality for the locktite regardless of bolt size but nice to learn!

Here are the compression test results. Cylinder 5 is noted lower than the others. I squirted some oil in that one and it went to 160.

Some of these pressures I think look too high for this engine cold. I think the test results “pass” but I would have liked to see better more consistent #.

I'd be interested in what a leak down test shows. Unfortunately, the two lowest cylinders happen to be next to each other.

Could be something; hopefully it's just coincidence.
