Heh. That sort of message just comes with the territory. I probably get one every couple of days. Hint: if you haven't hung out with them them socially for 10+ years under circumstances unrelated to having money... probably not a friend :)

So... If we start now- I'll be 46 when you give me money.
Where's the meetup? :)

Ben, when are you headed to LS next? I enjoyed meeting you a few years at the Ferrari CC event. I’ll be working the bigger races through this season and would love to see that FGT on track….

Yes, R3 motorsports down in SoCal. Great group of guys, super diligent; we've literally never (!!) had a mechanical failure on track in over 45,000km of track and race use.

holy snikes. that place is real close to my old house. id driven by before and saw a couple raced out ferraris sitting there. not something that fits into the area lol. when they close the front gate you cant see anything. its right across the street from van nuys airport so im sure customers can fly in and out and head right to the shop. pretty smart thinking for their location. van nuys is a sizeable small airport that caters to private planes/jets and helicopters (moreso planes).

Ben, what were your top speeds on those longer straights?

When you say "very, very fast", that's an understatement. Wow!

Your wife races, too, right?

Ok, the 488 GTM is a pretty, insane machine. 2:03s at COTA (and with track limits!) is very very quick.

God forbid you ever crash something like that at the track. Is there insurance that would replace it?

There is track insurance...but with the amount of time he's on the track, I imagine he self insures.

I know when I've looked into it in the past, to get $150k in coverage, with a 10% deductible it was like $2500 a day. I opted to self insure. Last year I had a small run off for about $14,500. I saved about $11k self insuring, rather than paying $2500 a day for my track days last year...and in reality, I would've even have covered the deductible.

I guess I am lucky where I am because my existing car insurance covers the track day at Mosport because it is a "HPDE" and not a race.

Running HPDE yes most car insurance companies will cover it, unless it's specifically excluded. But if you run door to door or time trials, that's considered for competition and not coverable under a normal policy.

I have read some insurance companies allow time trials to stay under the policy...but that's a gray area.

I looked into it a while ago, in Colorado at least, I wasn't able to find a single company that would cover HPDE any longer.

I know Hagerty was working on a track day insurance, they were having a really tough time getting by the regulators in Colorado but it was available in a lot of other states and it was a lot cheaper than some of the other options.

I haven't looked into it since because my car is a race car and W2W isn't going to be covered. I could get coverage while it's in the garage/trailer/paddock but it's not covered the second it rolls into the hot pit.
