I suppose it's time to be safe. Not having a cage has kept me from taking this to a half mile event over the last few years. I just didn't want to spend the money it took to make the car safe and had an internal fight with myself if I needed a 6pt and keep the OEM seats and belts or do a 10pt and do it right with fixed back seats, harness and all.

The car weighs 4000lbs and should do 185+ in the 1/2 mile and should probably be moving at a very quick rate of acceleration so I decided if I put the car on its lid, the cage will help me make it home

Enjoy the progress photos!

Cage kit: Fathouse Fabrications 10pt 8.50 cage
Installer: Storman Performance
Door Swing outs: Yes
Seats: Cobra Suzuka Pro Fit
Seat bracket: Fathouse (driver), Cobra slider (passenger)
Window net kit: Tim McAmmis kit (custom job for swing outs)
Belt/Harness: Impact
Rear Seats: Keeping themI
Install start date: January 10th

Didn't realize that a cage was required for 1/2 / mile high speed runs, thanks for the heads up.
Good luck with your cage project.
Presume you have tires rated for 185+ ??

There is no sanctioning body for half mile racing so its on the driver to prepare the car properly.

These tires I use have been 215+ in the half mile and 225+ in the 1/4 mile. The issue is duration and heat. The longer (time) the run takes, the more heat and expansion goes on. It's a calculated risk at these speeds and duration.

Fun project! I have to ask, why bother with a back seat when all of those bars are in the way?

Tom
2 reasons: I usually bring 2 5 gallon jugs of E85 with me during long cruises and events like Mustang week/Ponies in the Smokies and the jugs fit great in the bucket seats.

Since the rear bars hug the roof and rear window, you can put a small child in there for cruises.

I thinks it’s funny how you’re adding a cage for safety(which is great), but you drive around with fuel grenades in the rear seat.
Sweat car and project. Good luck

Driving a car on the street with a roll cage is just as dangerous. I manage that risk the best I can with a car of this level. Ultimately, you can die doing anything. Damned if you do, damned if you don't

Trust me, I’m not one to talk. I drive my track car around town sometimes just because. 92’ ProCharger Foxbody making almost 1,000hp. It’s completely ridiculous driving it around town. Manual brakes and steering. Spool out back. 8.5 chassis cert. 10-point. Yada yada.
The parachute turns a lot of heads. Haha

To my credit, I only run E85 which is less flammable and combustible than gasoline and I keep them in SFI approved containers and if they get punctured, something really bad already happened. I also keep 2 fire extinguishers in the car near the driver seat. It doesn't make it safer but it makes it easier to do it

Kudos on doing what you can to reduce the in-car fuel container risk.

That 10 pt. cage will go a long way to boost your confidence and raise the calm level.

Interior is out. Rear window is coming out soon and then the welding and cutting begin

Not messing around! Looks killer buddy.
I’ll be in touch on Motec but I’ve already had my 2 local tuners give me quotes for converting my ride as it sits no changes to Holley EFI. Main goal to eliminate those damn TB fail safes. So I guess one change, no more DBW. VMP makes a monster 180 cable drive TB thankfully

You can still rock DBW with the Holley. They sell a harness for gt500 throttle body and coyote throttle body. I am doing Holley on my turbo gt500 build and am using a gt350 DBW TB.

I’m well aware and the Holley guys and engineer I talked to were happy with the Holley DBW and recommended it.
Still, trying to tune/race boosted GT500 and Coyotes over 1000hp has taught me one thing…f**k factory ECU TB fail safes. I’ll take a good old cable TB!
