Nice video! I like the song pick. The only thing better would have been an AC/DC pick. LOL.

LOL, thank you Bob. I picked that song because I felt it went along with my attitude when I decided to re-paint the car.

As you can see from lyrics below it talks about breaking rules, the streets being your school, can't get enough of a good time and being a risk taker. I felt that message lined up with my attitude and what I was going through while painting the car LOL.....

Yeah, I know, I'm goofy LMAO!!!!

Lyrics:

Lets go!
Oh yeah!

Spent all of my life breaking all the rules
Stepping outta line, the streets are my school
Can't get enough of a good time

Gonna live it up, while I'm a still alive
I'm a hell raiser, risk taker, full speed ahead
Till I'm dead in the fast lane
Live wire, wild fire
I'd rather burn up in flames then fade away

You gotta live it up
You gotta live it up
You gotta hit 'n run
You gotta live it up, oh!

Run the red light
Sleep when I die
Don't you ever tell me to stop

You gotta live it up
You gotta live it up
You gotta live it up

Okay everyone,

My parents are coming over today to hang out and watch some playoff football. So, this morning I did a little unmasking and some mocking up before I have to start getting everything ready.

All I can say is I'm VERY pleased. The fenders match the car now. SWEET!!!!

After I got the fender mocked up I decided to throw my old wheel and tire combination on. Wow, the car is looking great! Can't wait to get the taillight panel cut and buffed and finish the polishing process.

Those wires hanging down are from my 02 sensors. I swapped them because the car is running rich and I thought one might be bad, but it runs the same no matter which 02 is hooked to the ECU.

There's that 427! Man, feels like months since I've seen it. Good news. No leaks. SWEET!

Here is a close up of the upper part of the door and fender. It's a perfect match. Guess it helps when you use the same paint purchased from the same paint store LOL.

Close up of the stripe. There's some clear coat residue on the stripe at the door I need to clean up. Overall I give myself a grade of B. Yes, it matches and the end result is awesome, but I get a B because I had a couple do overs LOL.

I'll bet your heart is beating just a bit faster looking at that 427 peeking out of the engine bay. I see more light at the end of the tunnel!

LOL, that 427 does get the blood flowing Bob. However, my main concern, when unwrapping the engine bay, was finding leaks at the master cylinder or hydraulic clutch reservoir and seeing my engine bay paint eaten up. Thank God that wasn't the case.

Over on the vintage site there are some guys seeing the 427 for the first time. So, getting a lot of questions over there LOL.

Also, as mentioned, my parents dropped by yesterday. They seemed to be impressed. My dad doesn't say much, but my mom was very impressed with the paint job. She asked me how long I have been working on the car. I told her this May will be 2 years. My wife told my mom it's pretty much a brand new car LOL. Hmmm, guess my wife has been paying attention to how much work I have done to the car LOL.

Okay everyone,

Got back at it today. I unmasked the driver's side and cut and buffed the taillight panel. I cannot believe how good that taillight panel came out. VERY pleased with the results.

Here is the taillight panel process.

This is after all the sanding is done.
20220122_115338.jpg

This is after stage 1 and 2 of the polishing process. You can see a slight haze in the lights reflection. This is why black is the hardest to do. It will show you every single mistake you make or if you are truly done polishing LOL. In this case I'm not finished polishing.
20220122_115400.jpg

Here is after stage 3 polishing on the panel. Damn, this thing literally looks like a mirror. I've never been able to make black look this good. It pays to invest in good sanding and polishing products.

Wide angle. You can now see the haze of the lights refection is gone.

From the other angles. I really can't get over how well this came out. Almost don't want to touch it, but some assembly needs to be done LOL.

Speaking of assembly, I installed the items on the taillight panel very carefully LOL.

Got my brake lights put back in and got my filler neck put in place.

Got the filler neck attached and my gas cap installed.

Man, back in the day even gas caps were works of art.
20220122_141107.jpg

Next it was time to get my 427 emblem installed. Time to bust out the laser level.
20220122_145745.jpg

Looks good. All level.

This is the same emblem/badge I have on my glovebox door.

View of completed taillight panel. VERY happy with how this came out overall. I'll probably work on installing my backup lights tomorrow.

That gas cap is indeed a work of art. Classy. Everything is coming along so nicely. But, why did you put a vertical mirror on the back end. LOL. Nice work!

LOL. We're getting so close to an actual FINISHED photo. I can't wait. Have a great day, Glenn.

Thank you Bob! I wish I felt the same. It still feels like I have so much to do. I even have more painting to do. Then there's the entire front end that needs to be assembled. Some interior needs finishing. I need to get my hood painted, installed and adjusted. I need to figure out my tire size before I can install my new wheels. It needs to be tuned before I can start it again. Uhg.....

In the grand scheme of things I think I'm close, but the finish line still feels a ways off.

Lastly, one thing you might not know about me is my glass is always half empty LMAO!!!

You also have a great day Bob!

I didn't mean to imply you were really close to finishing the project. I know you're months away. It just that I see some nice light at the end of a L..O..N..G tunnel.

Hello Everyone,

Well, this weekend we finally hit the tedious work stage LOL. I was installing new seals, QTR window crank handles and miscellaneous other stuff.

The first thing I did was install new door seals. Man, that weather stripping glue is a pain to work with. I mean it dries and holds great, but when applying it the glue is real stringy. Making a damn mess LOL.
20220129_132313.jpg

20220129_163323.jpg

Then I installed the QTR window seals on the QTR panel.
20220129_132325.jpg

20220129_163343.jpg

I removed the back seat in order to reinstall the inner QTR trim panels.
20220129_134008.jpg

While I was at it I installed new QTR window handles.
20220129_163249.jpg

It's starting to look like something again LOL.
20220129_163307.jpg

I also cleaned up my roof rail aluminum trim and installed new seals. These are the seals my windows roll up into.
20220129_163521.jpg

QTR window rolled up and tested. Seals great. Again, this was nothing difficult, but it was tedious. My roof rail trim pieces were full of wet sanding residue and overspray from the body shop that painted the car the last time. Pretty obvious these pieces were not removed. So, it took some time to get them cleaned up. Got to love taking care of things that were not done properly last time. I think if I ever decide to paint cars this is the stuff that will cause me to be slow. I don't like cutting corners. I guess the body shop does it to keep costs down and get cars in and out in a timely manner.
20220129_163533.jpg

I'll probably work on installing my back up lights and door sill plates tomorrow. I got some new stainless steel door sills. My last ones felt like they were made out of aluminum foil LOL. I also got some new door sill logos. I'll let you guys see them once they are installed, but they do go along with my badging theme.....

Your not kidding about that weather striping glue. I ruined a pair of jeans trying to keep it off other stuff and I was just doing one that time. I was doing some of the same stuff as you today, back seats and rear interior quarter panels. Your paint is so nice holy crap. After watching the Mecum auction I’d say your car is worth easily into six figures. Stunning work sir.

I drove mine just down the road and back without any interior just to check things out and it ran great and shifted good. Now I’m doing what you are doing, trying to put everything back together. The front end and all the pieces was a long job trying to get it all line up and sorting through parts finding nuts and bolts.

Keep it going, it is going to be so worth it.

Hello Todd! It's funny you and I were doing the same type of work to our classic Mustang. I wish mine was running right and I could take it out just to see if the brakes are working correctly and to get my speedometer calibrated.

Yeah, that weather stripping glue is hard to work with. I got some on my hands and it didn't want to come off. I can imagine what it would do to your clothes. I found a small amount on the paint of my door (I guess one of the strings got away from me). I was like holy S#!T. Now what? LOL. So, I got some lacquer thinner and was able to get it off. Crisis avoided LOL.

Thank you very much for your comment on my paint. I find myself looking at it sometimes and thinking "I actually did that." LOL. Even I can't believe how good it came out.

I don't think I'll ever sell this car, but, man, if I could actually get six figures for it that would be amazing. I was watching Barret Jackson while uploading my work on the car. Since it was super Saturday they had some amazing vehicles going through. Not sure how mine would fare being a coupe. I think it would go for big money if it were a fastback. Oh well, it's fun to dream sometimes LMAO!!!

During Barret Jackson I actually asked my wife if we could get over $100K for the Mustang if she would be willing to sell it. She actually said yes. I told her I don't think so LOL.

Thanks again Todd. You, @CobraBob, @Grabber70Mach, @geoffmt, @biminiLX and @01yellercobra are always VERY kind with your comments.

Ok, I finally finished the entire thread to here. Beautiful work.

I am impatiently waiting for you to get the beast running properly now ;)

I started the thread on VMF where I have been for motivation and support of my current sickness, 68 coupe. Doing full floors and metal remove / replace at the moment.

Hello EvilBlack. Don't know how your post got by me, but thank you for taking the time to view my whole thread. Man, that's a lot of pages and pictures. Thank you sir.

I'll see if I can find your thread over on VMF.

Yeah, I'm kind of impatiently waiting too. Of course my car isn't ready yet, but the shop I want to take it too is always busy. Hopefully once the car is ready to travel the performance shop can fit me in.

Getting closer man, definitely awesome to see the progress.
Planning on having it ready for spring?
Keep it up

Hello J. Thank you brother! I'm not in a hurry, but I am trying to get this thing done ASAP.

My Dad is giving me his 57 T-Bird. So, I need the space in the garage to keep the car. He has it in storage right now and I'm responsible for the storage fee. So, the sooner I get the T-bird to my house the sooner I start saving on storage fees LOL.

Wouldn't it be cool some day (if you were selling it) to see it cross the block at BJ or Mecum?

Nice work on the door panels.

Do you keep track of the hours you put into this project, Glenn?
